Bone Islands

Postby angie1975 » Thu Oct 13, 2016 4:58 pm

Just had my month scan yesterday and everything looked great! However there were a couple of things noted on my CT that doctor said was normal but I wanted to see how many of you have seen this.

First my lung nodule that was 3mm was now noted at 6mm, and doc said could be variation of scan slices. I know this is possible bit wanted to see how many people have had this.

Second they noted some spots on my bones this time, and called them bone islands anyone ever have those?any comments ate greatly appreciated, thanks

Angie1975, I'm a runner and have quite a few runner friends who've been told they have "bone islands" after being x-rayed for an injury. They are benign growths and are believed to be caused by an overproduction of bone or cartilage cells. They don't cause pain and are just incidental findings during x-rays or CT scans. Just another one of the fun things you learn about your body when you're scanned as often as we are! :D

The term "bone islands" sounds like a horror movie title to me! :D

I have lung things. At dx, 3mm and under. All remained the same throughout tx. They now say comparable, or image slice error, or maybe growth. Since then (dx) it went to 3, 5, 5 previous 2 then last scan 4, 5, 7. Next scan in December. No new spots tho.

I learnt that I had a few bone islands in my hip bone when I had my first CT scan. They were benign and have stayed unchanged for over a year. They a common thing.

My father is also going through cancer and he too has had a bone island in his scans from the beginning! Dr told him not to worry
