Liver lesions

Hi,

I had malignant polyp removed Jan 2016. With my luck CT showed liver lesions. So ended up with MRI with contrast at Baylor hospital and report said suspicion for hemangiomas and cysts. I have like 5 different once up to 1.5 cm all over the liver. I had panic mode and went to large Cancer center. I had another MRI with contrast - more detailed than in Baylor in March and no change and confirmed hemangiomas. Also convinced my doc to have pet/ct and no findings. Now last week again another MRI and no changes except 1 hemangioma minimum to no change of Max 2 mm. If these are Mets would they grow more? Cancer center doesn't recommend more imaging anymore. Going for my regular check up this Friday to my surgical onco. How fast liver mets grow? Thanks

My husband has cysts in his liver, lung and kidney and what they term a lipoma in his pancreas. These cysts have been there since his very first ct scan. I like you worried all the time that they were cancer and they were mis diagnosing him. It's been over five years, with ct scans and a couple of pet scans for routine follow ups and nothing has changed. They have told us from the very beginning not to worry and that they were harmless, but of course I worried anyway. All his scans and follow ups were done at MDA cancer center. After over five years of no change, I finally believe them. He no longer gets follow ups. He's been NED for over 5 years from stage IIbt4a. I understand your stress. Hang in there,

Thank you! So happy to hear that your husband is doing so well. Any liver or other organ's lesions are scary. Especially during colon cancer diagnoses

Hi Andrea1967,

it is pretty common for people to have small lesions on the liver. I have one, and it was there before my diagnosis and it has stayed the same since. A hemangioma is just a clump of blood vessels and is nothing to worry about. Cancer tumors have a distinct irregular look to them that can be determined with an MRI. Try not to worry. Also, you dont want to have too many scans as the machines pump your body with radiation, which while low per scan the damage does builds the more scans you get. Embrace the good news, but keep an eye out for any changes in your liver scans, and be kind to your liver.

Thank you. I agree that I should not do unnecessary scans. So far I only had 1 CT scan and 1 pet/ct scan fuision. Which I wasn't post to have but they sent me for it to calm me down. I have had 3 MRIs which are no radiation from my understanding. I know that I need to listen to my doctors.

just keep up on testing. mine was a similar situation but I turned out to be stage IV from a single colon poly the size of a pea. I showed spots on liver and had normal cea and was told don't worry a polyp would not cause stage IV well they were wrong it was and I am glad i kept up with follow up testing. not trying to scare you but better safe then sorry. maybe re scan in 3 or 4 months if all the same then probably nothing to worry about.

Thanks. I had MRI January, March and mid October. My surgical onco at Cancer Center said that mets would had doubled??? In all cases I had MRI with contrast. The radiologist was trained at MD Anderson. Hope he is correct... 1st MRI at Baylor and 2nd and 3rd Cancer center.
The radiologist didn't even say suspicious or etc. But all reports say Hemangiomas unchanged. Oncologist at Baylor said not to worry that radiologist reports what they see... I hope so:-)
Did your MRI showed that it's hemangiomas? When did your diagnoses changed? After how much time? My Cancer center says that in my case I should only be followed by annual colonoscopy. But we agreed on MRI and blood test in a year.
