Anyone deal with lymphedema after colon cancer??

Postby rmblack » Tue Sep 20, 2016 9:57 pm

I AM MISERABLE!!!! Swelling in my feet started about a month ago. Had ultrasound last week and everything looked fine. Tomorrow I go to a physical therapist to be checked for lymphedema. After reading some things online I feel positive this is what I have. Tonight my feet started to itch sooooo bad. Has anyone else here suffered from lymphedema? If so, what have you done to help with it?

You need to notify your physician if you have not already done so. It can be a side effect, part of the disease or have any number of other causes. There are other threads that you can search on this site full of information. Just search Lymphedema .
Good luck. So sorry you are going through this.

My mom had lymphedema, unrelated to any sort of cancer. After some treatments (wrapping, massage), she was much better.

Thanks for responding. I went to a physical therapist today. We are going to try compression socks and see how I respond to that. I am only 41 and feel like I am 61. Cancer has aged me so much. I will look at the bright side, I am in remission!

My husband had swelling of his feet, wrists and hands a couple of weeks ago. Got it checked out by the doc. He was not very concerned, and now it appears to be getting a lot better. :)

Hi There,

I am so sorry you are going through this. You have been in my prayers all weekend. I have no experience with lymphedema but I found this on the Mayo site. You have probably already found it but in case you haven't...

Lydia:
Do you know if you are MSI or MSS? I would definitely be pushing for Foundation One Testing. If you look at the blog on their website--the Post about MSS Colon Cancer and people in that category responding if they have 12+ mutations (My case helped them make this connection)....they are finding that Keytruda can work for not only MSI high Colon Cancer patients but also for some MSS patients who have at least a moderate mutation burden. Please look into this. It can be life changing if you happen to fall into the MSI or MSS with moderate mutation burden categories. Praying for you..
