R.I.P Dad

Postby Willow.NZ » Fri Sep 09, 2016 4:16 am

My amazing Dad died on Saturday 3rd September, aged 59. He went down hill very quickly, 4 weeks after stopping treatment. The photo posted was an amazing day I shared with him only 2 weeks before he passed away.
He died very peacefully at home. He was only bed ridden in last day, & stayed very comfortable & it was a very dignified death. He only started morphine/sedation pump + bolus doses which I was able to manage 24 hours prior. He died with myself, my mother, brother, nana & cat by his side.

We had his funeral yesterday & it really was an amazing send off. Thank you all those on this Forum that have given me support over these last years. I have been a very frequent visitor although probably more on the quiet side.

Pouri hoki koutou mate!

So very sorry to hear but am glad it was peaceful, dignified and that he passed with his loved ones by his side. I feel your sorrow more than you know, having lost my mother only last week as well.

Thank you all for the lovely posts. The photo was his last photography outing, his friends organised a tiger encounter at our local zoo, it was amazing. I felt like a bit of a fraud as I hadn't picked up the cameras much before, but we had a ball. I have Inherited his camera gear & he has asked his best friend who is a photographer to teach me.

People couldn't believe how sick he was as he was always so strong & positive. It was only in the last couple weeks he deteriorated so fast, with jaundice & ascites.

I treasure so many beautiful memories and now I am going to be trying to support my beautiful mother through this terrible time.
