Ugh Folfiri is not my friend...

Postby BeansMama » Sat Sep 03, 2016 7:22 pm

Had my first round of Folfiri this week. I was used to the Folfox, I knew how I would feel when, I knew what to expect.

Now I find I have no idea with this combination and I'm tired of feeling so damn nauseous. I discoed yesterday , I shouldn't still feel like my insides are going to make a rapid exit.

The things I could taste with Folfox now taste funny. So it's back to the drawing board there. I know part of it is dehydration, need to get those fluids in.

Had an MRI today in preparation for my appointment with the liver surgeon on Tuesday. Hoping that goes well. I'm just whiny and worn out. So many appointments and not feeling well, gotta figure out what will make me feel better and fast!

I am also on FOLFIRI, and I asked for the Emend anti nausea drug pre-med at my 2nd cycle and noticed much less nausea compared to the first cycle of FOLFIRI. Emend is an infusional product, and was recommended by DK37.

Sorry Beans, wish you were feeling better. Why don't you call and make a visit to the Onc and get some hydration or an ER since it's Labor Day weekend? I did that when I went to have the pump taken off, made a huge difference, nausea even subsided.

I agree about Emend. I just had this added and makes a difference. Still take a few Ativan following infusion for couple of days, but nausea barely there now. Hope you can get this straightened out. Folfiri is easier for me than Folfox was.

I do get the Emend on infusion days already. I may have to step up to some stronger anti nausea meds. I'm not used to feeling this ill after disconnect. Once I figure out what I can drink that doesn't taste funny I should be ok. The old watermelon standby is still working ok. That way I figure at least I am getting something into me even if it takes me an hour to get 5 cubes in.

Forcing myself to drink water even with the horrid metallic taste. Just hoping it gets easier with each round the way Folfox did. Have to find the routine.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I was going to suggest the Emend too but if your getting it already that sucks. I'm on my 3rd round and I had some heartburn and slight queasiness on the 1rst round . The good news is it's gotten better, so hopefully maybe you will get better too.

The first treatment is always the worst. Hang in there and it should get easier. Make sure to get the atropine for cramping and flushing at the beginning and in the middle of the Irinotecan infusion and you should feel less like your insides are going to fall out. My doc sent me home with Olanzapine for nausea on infusion day, and it helps me get through that first night. Zofran and Compazine were just not cutting it. The Olanzapine kicks the nausea and makes me fall asleep so it's a win win.

Feel better. HUGS!

From what i understand, emend used to be given over three days. First, on day of infusion given onsite, second and third taken at home. I was on this dosing two years ago.
Now, the iv emend is supposed to last for three days. This is what I'm currently on. I have not noticed a difference.

Darn so sorry to hear you are not feeling well. I was thinking about you this weekend and hoping for the best. Sounds like some people have given good advice so I am hoping something works for you. Do you take an antacid? My nurse mentioned that some people feel nauseous when it is the acid building up in an empty stomach. I have been taking cimetidine since I got dx since I need an antacid anyway and I have read on here that there are some studies that show benefits to taking it especially before surgery.

Ended up going to the ER last night for iv hydration. Three bags for fluids and compazine and I am feeling better this morning. They said another part of the problem was due to the fact that I felt so horrible I didn't take my daily pain meds, and that probably added to the sick feeling.

It was not fun, I had nothing in me but some vile green stuff was coming out.

Thank you for all the thoughts and we'll wishes, they are truly appreciated. I will def be talking with my onc on how to manage this.
