Thanks Sally - I was hoping not to hear it myself (but then, I suppose none of us were hoping to be here). I propose we all do everything we can to win, and then tell stories about how we did it. That's all the planning I've been able to do since I found out, but it seems to cover the essentials :)

Jim:

I'm sorry you have to join us in the Stage IV club, but there are many long-timers here, as you have noted. You have a wonderful sense of calm and logical thinking. I find that doing research and staying on top of/consulting about trials and new treatments helps give me a sense of control when I fall into panic mode. And tuning into the higher power helps calm me when I am overwhelmed by uncertainty. There are many good days in between txs. I'm with you and pulling for you!

Thank you ktwmn - I agree. I try to accept the diagnosis without conceding the prognosis, and remember that averages are just that, and backward looking in any event. There looks to be much on the horizon to keep us optimistic, and I too turn to my HP when panic hits. Thank you - and I am pulling for you (and for all of us). We just need to keep opening our eyes in the morning and getting out of bed :)

Hi JDMNYC,
Sorry to hear you are now a member of the IV Club.
Do You have a 'Hope List'? I do, I save all positive posts I see, it gives great hope!
Really like Your suggestion :) :

I hope that makes sense? It sounds much better in my language..

Thanks LPL - we say "play it where it lies," and it is certainly true, and it does make sense. Thank you :)

Great philosophy, Jim! Stay strong and stay aggressive. You have to be your own advocate if you're a Stage IV patient. I believe that not having hope is an insult to God. Let us know when they come up with a treatment plan. Sending prayers, as always.

Thank you Julie - met yesterday with current oncologist. 6 bilateral sub-centimeter lung mets, only one of which was large enough to biopsy. View expressed was: (i) no surgical or radiological intervention; (ii) no chemo now; (iii) wait two months, scan again. As you might imagine, I'm more than a little underwhelmed.

Okay, I don't mean to be rude, but how is this treatment??? You have a confirmed met and their response is to wait two months and watch it get bigger?! That's not the kind of oncologist you need. I'm angry for you!

Like I said, my oncologist would put you on chemo immediately saying you have active cancer in your body and until we stop it or slow it down it's going to grow. That's the truth.

I don't think that's horrible news, Jim. What happened with the lymph node they had been talking about before? Six mets may be able to be removed by SBRT. They may not grow which would mean that they're possibly not cancer.(except that one) There are many possibilities. Was the oncologist hopeful?
