Hyperberic Oxygen for radiation damage?

Postby Sophy » Mon Aug 22, 2016 3:33 pm

Has anyone else tried this therapy to heal up bone fractures from radiation?

My pelvis broke earlier this year and cannot heal so I am due to start HBOT treatment this week. I presume it works as our government funded health service is paying for the treatment as well as my travel and accommodation costs for six weeks in another city.

Would be grateful if anyone has experience or knowledge of this they could share.

Hi Sophy, I use HBOT but not for radiation damage. When I finished chemo my oncologist said I could do any treatment I wanted so I explored HBOT as a way to conquer fatigue, and I had read that cancer cells can't live in an oxygenated environment. The treatment is eas but you may feel like you are getting the flu from detoxing. GI'd bless and good luck with the treatment

Hi Sophy,
I had hyperbaric oxygen therapy HBOT, not for bones but for skin. Had an operation years ago and when they stitched me back up, one section of skin didn't respond and blood did not flow so rather then doing a skin graft surgeon put me into HBOT. Took a few months but it worked! It was like being in a capsule, tv at the end and a remote control. I'm claustrophobic so had to take an Ativan prior to each session which lasted almost a hour.

Good luck and sure hope the treatment works to heal you. Lots of prayers too...

Thanks for your replies, good to know other people use it and it helps.

Angie - did you buy your own little chamber or use one at a clinic? I have seen them for sale from about $5,000 US for soft sided ones which do 4psi and an oxygen maker is another $1,000 or so. (Then about $10,000 shipping and import duty to New Zealand...)

Hi Sophy
No I go to a local alternative clinic in Colorado Springs and get oxygen therapy. I would love to purchase one on my own but they are very expensive and not sure I even have the space for one. I paI'd $600 for 10 one hour sessions.

I tried six sessions of HBOT therapy during my FOLFOX regimen, to improve symptoms of chemo brain fog and fatigue. It was definitely relaxing laying in the soundproof tank for 90 minutes, but I didn't notice any therapeutic effect, unfortunately. Insurance generally covers this procedure only for wound healing applications.
