3 cancers- looking for positive stories

Postby Lydia666 » Fri Jul 29, 2016 11:37 am

I know there aren't many of you in my situation but if you know people who survived multiple cancers, please share the stories.
I had thyroid, colorectal and now breast ( ductal carcinoma in situ- not yet confirmed by biopsy but radiologist thinks it is).
I just can't see how i will stop producing cancers, i am pushing all records. 3 cancers before 40!

Lydia,

I am so sorry for all you have had to endure, especially cancer wise. Yes there are women on this site who have developed both colon and breast cancer with in a few yesrs of each other (members of the tits & ass club). I believe they all would be come NED, as I know you will too. There is a connection between the two. And it seems to happen within 2-3 year of one cancer followed by the 2nd.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers, And I know you are going to BEAT this beast too,

Will they test for signet ring cell? My moms bc went to her liver but it was bc cells.

The good news is that breast cancer has new treatments and is very close to being a chronic illness. Our family volunteers for Komen and so many new advances right now.

Keep on fighting!

Sorry to hear:-( but it's not as uncommon as you think. My neigbour had breast cancer 3 years ago / stage 1 and colon cancer last year stage 1. Had surgery for both and no other treatment other than taking daily pill after breast cancer.

I am in touch with woman who had beast Cancer at 37 and malignant polyp at 39 and now it's 15 years later and healthy.

Have you been checked for the genetic link between breast and colon cancer? I have been and negative. Still will be closely monitored at Cancer center 1x per year MRI and 1x mammogram. My mom and her sister both had breast cancer at 49 and 51. Genetic testing done and negative. But Cancer center wants to monitor every 6 months as they believe I am high risk.

Good luck!!!

Yes, it's genetic for me. I am prone to all these cancers and others. But nobody in my family had anything remotely close to this.

I haven't been on the board much lately as I've been battling my second cancer...melanoma. I'm doing the immunotherapy ...Yervoy ... when after my second treatment all hell broke loose. I've been bed bound for two week now...experiencing a lot of side effects. Today. I had treatment # 3 , with one more to go. I was told that I could possibly go through the same effects as what I went through these past two weeks again.....ugh!!!!!
My heart goes out to you having to deal with three cancers. I read that 12% of folk with one cancer will develope a second one. I can't imagine what the percentage is for three.

I'm sorry my story isn't a positive one....but I wanted to let you know that the battle isn't over until you give up. So stay strong and keep a positive outlook. And may all your test results be encouraging ones.

Sorry you're having to go thru this.

Yes, I've had 3 cancers now. Onc says there is a .oo5% chance of this and I don't have any of the known genes. Just finished my last chemo and radiation for my latest which is triple negative bc. I've gotten the normal protocol of chemo /rads for each.

Md Anderson cannot tell me why this has happened, they just treat me and really push me to watch the sugar intake and stress along with exercise.

Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck

There new genetic tests all the time. My gene is known only for about 2 years, i was told. Maybe for you is bad luck or maybe there is something genetic that we don't know of yet. Regardless, i was on alert after the two anyway, clearly something wasnt working. Now it's explained. But i do hope for you and me, that this is the last one.

yes, breast cancer spreads to liver and bones, like colon spreads to liver and lungs and peritoneum. What i have in my breast, though, is breast cancer, not cells from rectal nor my thyroid cancer. It's a new unrelated cancer.

I'm sorry you're going through this!
I had colon cancer, then it metastasized to my lung, then they found thyroid cancer.
Of the three, the thyroid was the easiest to deal with, so if you get to choose a cancer, pick that one. (People on the thyroid cancer board just hate it when anybody says that, like their cancer is being disrespected.)

Last cancer was 4 years ago, labs and CTs are still clear, and I'm doing well. It is possible to survive this crap!
I am not my disease.

I still don't have a definitive diagnosis. I did an MRI, mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy which gave no results and they still can't tell if it's cancer or not. Tomorrow, i get another biopsy done, another ultrasound and an enlarged mamo of a certain area, so hopefully , we'll get to the bottom of this. Still hoping for a miracle! But i am not that lucky.

For what it's worth, I heard on the CBC news this morning that thyroid cancer is often overdiagnosed. Hope this link works:

Great to hear of those surviving 2 or 3 cancers. All the best,
