I survived precancerous serrated sessile and was informed that I didn't need to do another colonscopy for 3 more years (2018)! But, when I found a lump on my breast I thought - yeah it's ok probably just a cyst then it started to grow, dimpling appeared and it looked like my left breast was being pulled toward my armpit! I went in for a mammogram (my Dr., has a standing order) a screening went to a diagnostic. I was whisked down to ultrasound even though the mammogram showed that everything was ok! I was never told that if you have extremely dense tissue that tumors does not appear in mammograms! On 6/27th i was told that I had invasive ductal carcinoma, met my breast surgeon on 6/29th and a lumpectomy on 7/1st! Pathology report: removed 1 1/2 cm cancerous tumor, 1 lymph node was cancerous and the margin under the tumor was not clean (precancerous) but, good side is that my Dr. had already taken out the tissue down to the bone so i don't need to go back in to remove more tissue!
Today, 7/22nd I had a port inserted and will begin chemotherapy next Wednesday! I can't believe this - my life has been turned upside down and inside out within one month. If you would have asked me a couple months ago, "So Karen which cancer are you high risk for?" I would have told you colon cancer - my father had it at 37 yr., (he died with a heart attack at 59) and his brother died of colon cancer at 48. If the men on my dad's side of the family didn't die of colon cancer then they died of prostate cancer!
Is there anyone else out there who has also been diagnosed with breast cancer? Suggestions?
