Evolution of breast cancer- update

Postby Lydia666 » Thu Jul 14, 2016 2:15 pm

Hey guys, i am having a breast cancer scare. I had a mammogram yesterday because i am at risk to have this cancer. Dont have the results yet. They will do an mri and an ultrasound too. The doc checked and she felt something underarm where i have a weird sensation. Says could be anything but of course i freaked.

I am holding on to the idea that i had a petscan from head to toe exactly one year ago for my colon cancer and it showed nothing. Could i develop breast cancer in like 9 months - as i ve had the sensation for 2-3 months now. I mean i guess i know i could if i have some incredibly agressive type, but really??

Thanks for any input.

My mom died from bc. Three times I've had something weird show up on mammograms and had ultrasound, mri and even 2 biopsies and it was nothing. There's a lot of false positives on mammograms.

but--with signet ring cell, that is aggressive and it can spread to breast tissue, so definitely best to check it out!

I doubt this is spread from colon cancer. For it to not go in any of the usual places: peritoneum, lungs, liver but jump to breast sounds unlikely. I am thinking more a new primary since i have this gene that makes me prone to various cancers, 2 of which i had already. Docs are talking along the same lines. If there is something, it is a new primary.

Hi, Lydia.
Here's a quick summary of what is going on with me. I had a mammogram just before I was diagnosed with rectal cancer. It showed a cluster of microcalcifications that were removed and biopsied and were benign. That was in December of 2014.
I went through the standard treatment for rectal cancer starting in Jan 2015, with 28 days of chemo/radiation, surgery, then 8 rounds of Folfox. I had my first CAT scan since my last chemo this past May, and I was told I was NED.
On June 2nd I had another mammogram. And another cluster of microcalcifications was biopsied. I now have a second, unrelated cancer called Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, which thrived and grew in 18 months, as I was taking a top shelf chemo cocktail through my port. Some breast cancers react to Folfox, but not my kind. Yep, I'm just that lucky. I am very grateful that this was caught at an early stage, but I'm also feeling pretty pissy, i'll admit it. I have chosen to have a mastectomy with immediate reconstruction on the one breast and if there is no spread to lymph nodes, I won't need chemo.
Today I painted my fingernails pink and my toenails blue. Take a deep breath, it can happen to the best of us. My hopes and prayers are with you, that you and I don't both have to belong to two clubs we never wanted to join. This forum has been invaluable to me; I haven't found one yet to even compare to it in the wide world of pink. Feel free to PM me anytime if you have questions. I'm just a month in, but I've learned a lot already. My surgery is scheduled for August 3.
blessings and hugs,

Thanks Deb. Honestly, i would not be surprised if i get bc. What i find unlikely is that on 9 months i go from no breast cancer , to cancer in the lymphnodes ( i have tenderness under arm). The only way this is possible is if i have the most aggressive cancer on the planet or if my pet scan last year completely missed any sign of breast cancer. I dont know.

Good luck Lydia, hope it's nothing serious. I have a few friends, most mammograms seem to show something new almost every year. So far nothing serious.

I actual see a breast surgeon once a year for my mamo. Many years ago, I had a mamo, guess I had a small infection in left breast, butt no one told me. 6 months later I was dealing with a massive infection. Over a year later, 2 surgeries and 3 bouts of medicine, we finally got it under control. Now that surgeon orders my mamo and then I see him for 5 mins, for him to say all OK. He does it because we all agree it could happen again.

Again, good luck, keep us posted.

The mamogram shows calcifications on the right breast, i need a biopsy and an ultrasound. Crazy thing is that my uncomfortable sensation is on the left side and doc felt something on the left side. Go figure! Ultrasound and biopsy next week and surgery to remove the stoma! No break!!!

All the best, bet you are glad to be getting beyond that stoma.

I am so sorry! But I am sure it will be very initial since you have been doing all the screening right? Protocol is there for a reason, to catch something early if needed.
