Now stage 4

Postby Delinda2 » Thu Jul 14, 2016 8:40 am

Hello all, I've been away for a while but I do lurk from time to time & think of you all. Time to catch up & maybe pick your collective brains a bit. First, they have recently changed my status to Stage 4. Since February they have been convinced that the problem in my sigmoid was a second primary. I had a huge surgery on 6/14 that included resection on sigmoid, total hysterectomy, removed the rest of my colon except for a tiny snip, and a temporary ileostomy. I've been healing great, no complications at all, ileo working perfectly - then we got the pathology report. Oops, it was a spread of the original in the transverse colon. Good reminder that doctors don't know everything & no test/scan is infallnble. Personally I'm glad they did the surgery, they wouldn't have if they had known it was a spread. I'm just glad that filthy stuff is out of me. Also turned out that the lesion on my uterus was nothing, so yeah! I had 6 rounds of FOLFOX before surgery & was supposed to have 6 more starting yesterday. However, I had a bad reaction to the oxy after 20 minutes so they shipped me off to ER at the University of Washington hospital when my oxygen dropped & I started turning blue. Had shhooting pains in legs & spine, chest constriction, throat swelling, etc. After 4 hours they let me go home. Feeling better but pretty washed out today. Now I have to find out what we do for chemo now. Fortunately the genetic tests showed NO mutations (that they currently know off) so I should have some options. I'm guessing Folfuri?? Other suggesiions? I'm not surprised at the stage 4 news, I suspected it from the beginning. All my other indicaters are pretty bad anyway. I'm not freaked out & just taking it one step at a time. Hope all of you are well. Will try to be around more & give support where I can. March on!

So good to see your post as I have been wondering how you were doing, but am so sorry about how things are for you right now. Glad the surgery went well at least.
I hope your doctor can come up with a good plan for you. Maybe some of the immunotherapy trials might be an option. Thanks for checking in!!

Delinda, didn't you have a bad reaction to the oxy back in May? I surprised they tried it again. Yes, Folfiri should be an option for you or Erbitux since you have no mutations.

I'm so happy to hear you sailed through that big surgery and had no complications! And great news about the lesion on your uterus! Score 1 for Delinda! :D Take care and keep us informed when you can.

Hey Delinda, sorry you're back in the trenches but glad you pulled through your operation well.
Dumb question here - because the new cancer was in the colon, why is it stage 4? I always thought it had to be distal ie organ spread.
Wishing you strength for the treatment ahead! :)
