New to site

Postby Db1963 » Tue Jul 12, 2016 7:01 pm

Hi all.
Im new to this site and thankful I found it. Just had a colonscopy on 6/27. Dr removed two polyps there is a rather large 3rd one that he could not remove .it is in my upper rectum.and its flat. Saw the surgeon last week and hes gonna cut my abdomen open scheduled for the 25 of July. Surgeon calling this an adenoma and its 3 to 4 cm saids hes gonna do a resection of the colon remove the bad and sew colon to rectum. the bx came back ok but now the surgeon has said the whole adenoma that it may or may not be yea, ive been googling I finnaly found ya'll :) Dr google not the thing to do ! Has anyone had this surgery Im really scared right now. I should of went long before i did . The colonscopy was nothing they put me to sleep and I dont remember it As for surprep it reminded me of a salty sweet tart it was not that bad if I drank it anyone could. I did vomit on the second part due to 4 30 am was a bit early to be up and putting all that in my stomach other than that the prep was fine its this upcomong surgery that has me all frightened. I am praying this stays begine.

Welcome, I had my sigmoid colon removed which is right above the rectum and part of my liver removed at the same time as I had mets. All went well for the most part. Most people seem to have some type of bathroom issues after. For me, constipation seems to be a bigger problem now. Trying to figure out a good medium has been the hardest part (constipation vs diarrhea), slowly getting better. A couple small accidents. More gas also.
Best wishes.

Hello..please make sure you use a colon rectal surgeon...as opposed to a general surgeon.

My biopsy during colonoscopy came back benign (twice) and when I had my resection, pathology came back
stage 1. As I understand it, the surface of the polyp could be benign but as you go deeper within the polyp, there could be trouble. Mine was also 3cm.

Now that you found this board, stop googling :)
Really, googling is bad.

Ditto - find a board certified colorectal surgeon. Ask about preliminary staging before surgery because it could affect the pre or post surgical treatment.

Have they done any scans? If not, I would want scans done prior to surgery, even tho the biopsies were clear, as they could have missed some spots that could contain cancer. Also, to double check for any spread if it is cancer.

Search this site for cimetidine & dosage info. You might want to start taking it before, & continue a while after, surgery.

Welcome to the board.*hugs* I had ct scans before my surgery to check for spread. I had half of my rectum and half of my sigmoid removed. I've had more gas and bowel issues since my colon resection surgery. I either have multiple small bowel movements a day, constipation or sometimes diarrhea. The best advice for after the surgery is to walk as much as possible to help get your bowels working again and to get rid of gas. Also write down questions and bring them to appointments and bring someone with you if possible. Good luck!*hugs*

Hi all,
The only thing so far they have done was bx a piece of this it came back normal they sent me to surgeon and hes the one that said resection and once this is out it will be tested again due to it being flat and the size . Going to see my pcp in the am have questions for him and this surgeon as well.im thinking they are going get it out first then resend it to the lab and hopefully it remains begine . Guess I go from there. My pre op is next monday not sure what test they will do so far the only test has been done was. the colonscopy.

I agree with what the others said. Find a good Rectal/Colon Surgeon and if possible have it done with scope. I had a Lap LARS and it went very well and not a lot of pain. I pray all goes well for you.

I would think a ct scan and blood work would be in order before any surgery. Ask why there not doing it. Ask if there going to give you an ileostomy?
Write down a list of questions for Doctor and get some answere before getting a major surgery like this.
53 yrs old
4/30/15 colonoscopy Mass found
5/21/15 staged 3 C rectal cancer
7/3/15 finished xeloda and radiation 28 rounds
9/30/15 LAR
10/29/15 picc line installed
11/2/15 start chemo 5 fu Oxaliplatin
3/7/16 Finish Chemo
4/29/16 Ileostomy Reversal.
7/13/16 colonoscopy clear.
CRC survivors know there Sh%t

Yes, they will test the tumor again after surgery and and lymph nodes they take, but you should get scans (and as mentioned also) bloodwork before surgery.

The waiting is tough and the not knowing. We have all been there. I wouldn't worry about the 9 days as far a spread goes. Suppose to be a very slow growing thing.

I'm sure they'll do all they need during preop. My oncologist was thrilled that my surgeon checked my CEA before and after my surgery which is why I mentioned CEA to you. My gastro doc tried to remove my flat tubulovillous adenoma during my colonoscopy but couldn't do it safely. Good thing too. You want the surgery so that they take the whole thing including lymph nodes etc. my surgery was laparoscopic and for me, recovery wasn't that bad.

So many helpful, wonderful people on these boards. You've come to the right place.
