I would definitely look for another oncologist. It's too soon to throw in the towel...especially when it's someone else doing the throwing. I wouldn't consider 3 rounds in 5 months sufficient, especially if there was no attempts made to increase your cell count and platelet count. There may be other combinations of drugs that might be suggested. Where are you located? Someone may have a suggestion for a second or third opinion if near you. Stay positive !

9/5 - clean PET
12/10- clean CT

3/2/15 - Clean colonoscopy & port removed
3/4 - clean CT
9/21- clean CT

3/23/16 - clean CT

2/22/17- clean CT

My best friend has ovarian and almost had a transfusion bc Her counts were low. I know her dr put her on antibiotics (maybe to protect from infection?) and somehow her counts went back up. I know she was eating as much protein she could stomach.

Don't give up!

See another doctor.

I only just read that papaya extract helps boost platelet counts. It is a natural product and can be drunk as tea - so it shouldn't be too drastic of a thing to try at such a time.
Here is a link from Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) about papaya leaf extract: https://www.mskcc.org/cancer-care/integ ... apaya-leaf
Not enough is know about its adverse effects in humans so they don't recommend it.
Amazon has various sellers of papaya leaf extracts and teas
I just want to provide a resource for you. You can discuss this with your doctor, or future doctor (because you deserve a doctor that is willing to fight to save your life)

My platelets started to get just a little low. I think in mid 90s. I tried the papaya leaf stuff for a cycle or two. For me no jump back up but who knows. The kind I got tasted like a syrup. Easy to drink a tablespoon or two. I ended up with I think just one cycle where they said it was lower than they would normally proceed with, but let me decide. I went ahead and luckily platelets didn't keep, going down after that.

I am glad your platelets stopped dropping. The papaya leaves i tried was a tea. It is sometime hard to tell what works and what doesn't. I throw everything at it as long as it doesn't counteract the chemo, or makes things worse.

Yup, throw everything at it is the only attitude to have! Keep at it!

Hi there

We are having the same problem here. Low platelets count

Our Onc is trying folinic acid. I have to ask but maybe it is regarding folinic acid deficiency

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/456004

He is trying magnesium too

Hope it helps!
