Surgery tomorrow and white count

Postby Youngjen81 » Mon Jun 20, 2016 11:27 pm

Just saw my labs came in online. I finished xeloda 8 weeks ago and my wbc is only 2.8! I'm positive my doctor will review labs in the AM but I'm wondering if he will postpone surgery? Anyone here familiar with this circumstance?
Diagnosed at 35 after 8 years of symptoms
T3n1m0, clinical diagnosis, suspicious spot on iliac crest and left lower lung, unchanged
28 radiation, with Xeloda 3000 mg
LAR with temp ileostomy 6-21-16, pCR!
Ileus and blockage, 12 day hospital stay
Port placement 7-26-16
Fofox begins 8-2-16
Mom to 4 boys(2, 10, 11, 22) they are my world!
Mother diagnosed 5/2016
Clinical stage t3n2m0, cysts on liver and kidneys
Last day of chemoradiation 7-28-16, can't wait! It's hard seeing my Mom in pain

Mine is 2.8 also, so hard to get it up after radiation. I had #1 injection of Nuelasta today, #2 tomorrow and next week also.
I don't know the answer to your question but I have an appointment with a thoracic surgeon later today and planned on asking him that. I'll look for your answer if you find out first.
Take care and hope it all works out for you!

Sure hope we can get this done tomorrow. This prep has been rough. I was prescribed flagyl and neomycin after the bowel prep. Now it 2 am and I'm up vomiting. Erg.

Thank you for your response. Best wishes to you.

Glad to hear your surgery is done!
I did ask the surgeon today and he said he would cancel surgery if the count was 1.0. My oncologist has said in the past that if my count got below 1 he'd put me in the hospital immediately.
Good luck with the pain and recover quick.

Recovery has been long. I developed an ileus and was discharged at day 7 assuming it had healed. Within hours at home I was vomiting uncontrollably. I was readmitted and am now on day 12 at the hospital. Erg.

I feel guilty for complaining. I had clear margins. I am so thankful.

However I am so ready to be home. I miss my family and I miss taking care of myself. My back is constantly aching. I had 3400 ml output yesterday - one extreme to another. Can't get sleep and have increasing anxiety.

Vent over. Thanks for listening.

Sorry to read you're having a rough time. When you start trying to reintroduce foods, even liquids, go extremely slow, a bite or 2, then walk, repeat. If you start burping or hiccuping, quit eating. I know it's hard but you will get through this. Take care.
