Last Chemo Today!

Postby crazylife » Mon Jun 13, 2016 8:46 am

DH has his last chemo session today! Excited but so nervous that some additional mets will pop up. He is clear besides a 4mm met in his lung. Sloane will check him in 30 days.

So incredibly proud of him for going through all of this. He has gone to the gym every single day while on chemo. A friend commented he looks like Iron Man now...ha ha!

F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C!!!!!

Congratulations for your DH! And for you! Getting through chemo is huge! Keep in mind that the physical/emotional side-effects will not dissipate over night, however. At least for me, coming off my chemotherapy regimens were always a mixture of joy, anxiety, and adjustment.

Congratulations again!!!!!

Question for you guys. Oncologist said she will scan 3 months from today (which is last chemo). Last scan was 3 months ago that showed the lung met shrunk and lymph nodes back to normal size. 6 months without a scan and leaving the lung met in there? It's tiny at 4mm but still. This makes me nervous.

This is the lung met that's been shrinking all throughout treatment, right? Did you read the last CT scan report? Did it mention "calcification" or "necrotic tissue" or words like that? Calcification or necrosis at the center of the nodule is generally considered an indication of a dead met. That may be what your onc thinks. However, I would talk to him/her about RFA before it gets any smaller (at some point it will be too small to pinpoint with radiation) and ask why they want to take a "wait and watch" approach rather than getting rid of it now.

Personally, I wouldn't want to go off chemo without one last scan. That seems odd. If CEA is a good indicator for your DH, I also would ask for it to be tested every 6 weeks just to put your mind at ease.

Before the 3 months?

If the last one was 3 months ago, I would expect another one soon, not 3 months from now which would make it 6 months, that does not sound right. I swear I had one shortly after my chemo ended, now I can't think. Ok, looking back, I ended chemo the end of September and CT in October, so shortly after. Especially since you still have a met...hmmm, does not sound right to me.
