Paul Update PART TWO ...... FYI....Not good news

So Paul had his CT scan on Tuesday and we were scheduled for today (Thursday) to meet onc and hear results. Well yesterday morning onc's office calls and wants us to come in ASAP. So we get there about 10:30 AM. Everything is growing cancer mets wise in the following areas:

Both lungs
Liver
Both Kidneys
Left Adrenal Gland

But the concerning news is Paul's previously radiated skull tumor is actively growing again AS WELL AS a new 2.5cm lesion now within the brain tissue (and they suspect there are more also) with swelling in the brain. Paul's right hand had gone numb these past two weeks and now that mystery as to why has been solved. He was put on steroids yesterday to help with swelling and today started whole brain palliative radiation. He will now have to go back on diabetes meds and monitoring glucose levels because steroids seems to bring that on for him. So for 3 weeks (M-F) he will get whole brain radiation and we are going to see what that does basically. So much for quality of life and not having treatment. But the onc said that these fast growing brain mets (nothing showed in the brain at the end of Oct) would take Paul much sooner than any of his currently growing mets. He also wants us to really consider going on Gemcitabine after Christmas and said that would at best give us an additional couple of months.

I am kinda walking around in a haze, but wanted to give the Part Two update. If you PM me it may be a while before I respond because I got the "blue screen of death" last night on my laptop.... but that has become real low priority lately.

Well, time for some hard thinking about trade-offs. I wish for the haze to clear sooner for you so you can clearly assess your options. Blue screens are definitely a metaphor for something!
