Colonoscopy booked

Postby DarknessEmbraced » Wed May 25, 2016 9:00 am

I called my GI's office again and he booked a colonoscopy for me for July 6th. I remember him saying that he had another prep that I could try at his office. A prep that would be easier for me than pico salax. The last time pico salax first packet took 5 hours to work and afterwards it worked so well that I became dehydrated no matter how much I drank. I'm glad the colonoscopy is before my appointment with him in August. His receptionist will call me back to let me know about the prep. His office is in my grocery store.(super center)

Time for a good old fashioned colonoscopy eh? I hope the prep goes smoothly for you. We all know that's the worst part of the scope right? Please keep us posted. I'm curious what prep you will get.

Good luck w/your colonoscopy! Mine is June 30th for my 3 yr follow-up and I have to do the dreaded Golytly so I hope whatever they give you is better than that and easier to handle.

I've never understood the hoopla about the prep. Seems like a great way to cleanse the colon. Check out on Youtube how fresh and clean that colon looks when the endo goes in. Think of what a favor you're doing to your colon.
Anyhow. Good luck and keep us posted.

I hope everyone's prep and colonoscopies go well! My yearly colonoscopies were changed to every three years because of the clear colonoscopy last year. I've been having more of them due to the issues I have been having. Thanks everyone! :D

I did not know there were different preps. The hospital had me check in the afternoon before the colonoscopy. I had to drink the 4 big bottles of salty water. They brought me hot chicken broth for dinner and then a sweet, clear fruity-cinnomony drink...called it compote. It was so good - it really helped me get that last bottle down! I was doing pretty good until I got to bottle 4, so really, I was alternating broth with the medicine drink... and then rewarded myself with a bit of compote. Repeat. The entire prep really wasn't bad (except getting that 4th bottle down), but I did myself a favor and had soup the day before and a light smoothie for breakfast. It wasn't like I was up all night running to the bathroom. They knocked me out cold for the test and I was surprised to wake up back in my hospital room! And I am so very happy that I had it done.

I have had 3 different preps. 1st Golytly (awful taste, hard to do), 2nd Prepopik (easiest imo), 3rd the Mirilax combo (Mirilax,Dulcolax,Mag Citrate) (double dose of Mirilax tho), which was much beter than Golytly and not bad, just had so much of it! Golytly was just horrible, the others not bad.

1st colonoscopy:
Golytly = the big 4 liter jug with the nasty salty stuff with the lemon flavor packet which didn't do crap to make it taste better.

Surgery:
Prepopik = 2 packets you mix with 5oz water separate times (4-5 hrs apart) then a few bottles of water after each dose. (2 separate doses of the 5oz mix, taste is similar to mag citrate)

Year checkup colonoscopy:
Mirilax combo = 64oz bottle Gatorade with full bottle (mine was 255 grams of generic rx size which is slightly more) of Mirilax, a couple Dulcolax pills, and 10oz Mag Citrate bottle. (Plus another full dose of the Mirilax for me as I was having constipation)

Good luck with your up coming scope. I got dehydrated once from a prep scope and it's no fun.
