Results are in

Postby JDinNC » Tue May 24, 2016 9:03 pm

Well, I finally saw my oncologist regarding my melanoma results. The surgeon did a larger incision on my back to get clear margins and stitched me up. This Friday those stitches will be removed.

My oncologist said that my melanoma is not stage 4 since the cancer didn't metastasized to any of my organs but he was honest in saying he's not sure what stage I'm at. The original biopsy stated that I had residual melanoma spreading within my skin. During the incision to get clear margin the result from the skin removed now states it was non residual melanoma. Needless to say my oncologist is complex about my situation and will be consulting with other oncologist. I told him I want to do a clinical trial which he totally agrees with but with me being BRAF wild...there aren't many options. Which brings me to Yervoy, he wants me to try this but only after he talks to the other oncologist to get their opinions. I'm all for it but I've read the side effects are horrible which really kinda scares me. In any case, I go back to see him on June 2th for the final decision. So at this point, I'm cancer free for both colon (3years) and melanoma.

If anyone has used Yervoy, I would love to hear of your experiences.

Out of curiosity, was a rationale given why they chose to advise you to take a CTLA-4 inhibitor like Yervoy instead of a PD-1 inhibitor like Opdivo or Keytruda?

Really sorry to read this morning of your horrible side effects- :(

I was told that I couldn't have Keytruda because..according to the cancer rule book....I had to be three years out from having chemo which wouldn't be until Feb. 2017. I have stopped the treatments because of my side effects. Been having diarrhea for two weeks now and have lost 20 lbs. Going in today to see my primary doctor to try to stop this. At this point, I would have to problem dying now because I can't handle this anymore.
