Hi My son has the above - it has now been removed - is there anyone with any knowledge of this in someone so young?

Good grief! This scares the shit out of me. So great you had him checked and it was found. What prompted a colonoscopy so young?

This is not the first time I have heard of this. There is an old member here something like Harleymom who"s son was diagnosed with CC in his teens. It was a miracle, he survived, last I heard he was a healthy young man. I know of a family who's kids started getting scoped at age 10 simply because Mom was diagnosed in her 20's with CC. Very rare, butt it has happened.

On another site many many years ago, a young boy at around age 16 was found to have many polyps, Mom wanted her son to get a permanent colostomy (ie all of colon removed) and avoid colon cancer. While I understood her fears, 16 is a young age to deal with a bag especially for gym and showers and class mates. My recommendation, get scoped every 6 months until he was 18/21, of legal age to make his own decision.

What is his Dr saying would be the next best course? Monitor?

All the best to you and your son.

rectal cancer - April 2004

There was a 13 year old over the last year who had stage IV colon cancer.

So scary! I am so sorry you guys are having to deal with this!!

With the size of my tumours, it would have made sense that I had polyps starting between 16-18. I'm so glad he's had it removed. Personally I'd scope every year or two until there are a few clean then spread out to 3 years.

Feb - Stage 2 (T3 N0 M0) CC @ 30
Mar - R hemicolectomy, 18 LN
May-Nov 6 - Chemo (8 Xeloda)
Feb - NED
Feb - NED
May - Stage 4 - 1 liver met @ 32
Jun - Liver resection
Aug-Jan - FOLFOX 5 rounds, 5FU X 6
Ap, Oct - NED
Mar - NED
