Any long term NEDs w/ Signet Ring Cell w/ mets to Peritoneum

Hi Everyone,

This board has helped me out so much and I feel like its a safe place for me to come and read and learn more than I already know. My Mom just had her PET scan yesterday to see exactly what the 12 rounds of modified FOLFOX 6 did for her. She is stage IV with signet ring cell, primary site rectum with mets to peritoneum. I see and read other peoples health history similar to my Mom's situation, but not a lot about people with mets to peritoneum and wanted to know if it is even possible that my Mom could go NED? I really hope so!

I should add, when she was originally diagnosed they thought she had ovarian cancer due to some of the tumor locations (one on her left ovary, one need her uterus), but after taking cells from her peritoneum during a laparoscopy they discovered it was Signet ring cell and found the "mother" in her rectum. She also has "seeding" throughout her peritoneum.

I am sorry to read about your mum but glad she is fighting this - and has your support. Keep it up.
My brother has colon cancer which has spread to his lung and pertioneal.
do you know what the conditions/criteria are for HIPEC? (we are in the uk but guess they will be the same worldwide)

Im pretty sure it will be no spread outside the peritoneal area. I assume peritoneal and peitonuem are the same? sorry we have just found this news out so am desperatley trying to make sense of it.

I was accepted in Norway with one lung met on PET scan. It later turned out I had one (maybe two) more. My HIPEC was in January 2015 and I have not had recurrence in peritoneum.

As of now, her primary source for signet ring cell was her rectum with mets to her ovary, bladder, and peritoneum, she basically has what they call "seeding" all of her peritoneum and she currently is not a candidate for HIPEC or surgery. She just completed 12 rounds of modified FOLFOX 6 and just had a PET scan on Monday. We will get the news next week to see how well the chemo worked for her. If the chemo did a great job she may be a candidate now for surgery.

I don't know what to say except just take it day by day and hope. If you want inspiration, check this thread if you haven't yet. Frenchie has been off chemo for quite a while now and is one of my biggest inspirations here (not saying to go off chemo, but he and his story, attitude, and humor are beyond words). It's many pages, but you can just read his posts and see. Best wishes.

Hi tiger paw. Could you tell me the name of the hospital in Norway that did the hipec operation please?

My HIPEC surgery was performed at Oslo University Hospital. I do not know if they accept patients from other countries. You would have to ask them. It is the only hospital in Norway which offers HIPEC.

Thank you everyone! We get my Mom's PET scan results tomorrow morning, hoping it will show was the CT scan showed in January after 4 treatments, shrinkage. She has had 8 treatments since January so we will see exactly what modified FOLFOX 6 did for her! Positive vibes and prayers please!
