New here and have diet questions

Postby strangerinmyownskin » Tue May 17, 2016 8:45 pm

I'm 6 months post left hemicolectomy and 8 treatments in on FOLFOX, although stopped oxaliplatin after treatment 6 due to serious neuropathy concerns... My question... can I go back to eating green veggies or salads without causing serious abdominal pain? What has been your experience?

I would say start off small, try different ones at different times to see how it affects you

My Onc told me not to eat fruit or veggies but once I begged him so I could have a salad. I had a big salad and was so sorry that night I was so sick. What Nik said only eat a small amount and I would only eat one type at a time.

My husband started off with small amounts and gradually increased his salad/vegie intake every week. Now he eats all the salad and veg's he wants with no problem. The one thing that he still cannot tolerate at all is coffee. Every time he drinks it whether with or without caffeine, he gets very bad diarrhea and cramps. Anybody else with that problem?

My surgeon put me back on a full diet when I left the hospital. He did tell me that each person is different in what their system can and won't handle. So yes, baby steps back into the world of food and drink.

Yes Deb coffee does cause diarrhea. I have radiation daily at 9am and don't dare have coffee before I go, only at home.

You can for sure but start with only a few new ingredients at once and in small quantities. I eat huge amounts of veggies everyday :)
