Mets To the lungs Questions

Postby RobM » Tue May 03, 2016 10:05 pm

Been a while since I have been on here. I have some questions:

I finished my last round of chemo for rectal cancer in July of 2015. All has been clear until my last scan revealed 2 1 cm nodules in my left lung ( 1 upper 1 lower) and a 6 mm nodule in my lower right lung with smaller nodes in the right that are to small to categorize. Biopsy has been completed and is confirmed for metastatic rectal cancer to the lungs.

I was under the impression that I would be a candidate for surgery to have these removed, But I was advised today that would be starting FOLFIRI next week. Does this seem to be the norm? Or should I be insisting on resection? I am really lost and not sure what to do? Please help.

I think resection possibility is dependent on location and size, so there could be a number of reasons why resection has to wait. For me Folfiri plus Avastin is working to kick butt on the lung mets and they are almost gone in just 8 Months. It's not the worst thing.
Hang in there.
Female age 39- ,2 teens.

I also think it's location and amount. Since its in upper and lower and in both lungs. I would think chemo to shrink or eliminate to get to surgery sounds normal. I have some scattered spots that if they turn out to be cancer I was told no surgery, at least currently for me.

I think chemo is the normal route then see if any response. If surgery is not possible look into radio frequency ablation it is usually done outpatient with very few side effects or down time.

My lung nodules were resected immediately--then followed up with mop-up chemotherapy for 6 treatments. Surgery is the gold standard...I would seek that option out.
12/10 - Rectal Cancer Stage IV
1/11 - Lung Met- VATS
3/11 - Folflox begin 6 tx.
7/11- 28 tx. chemoradiation
9/11 - LAR Surgery (Complete response to Chemo)
10/11- 12tx. of Folfiri Mop-up
7/12 - Ostomy reversed
NED since 9/1/11
3/13 -Port Removed
