Dr. K...Is She Okay?

Postby Jack&KatiesMommy » Sun May 01, 2016 10:33 pm

Has anyone heard why Dr. K is still not taking her appointments at MSKCC? I know that she travels a lot..and has missed scheduled appointments due to travel plans and unexpected delays. but it seems this has been 2+ weeks since she has been in the office? I pray that she is okay and that nothing is wrong. She does so much for others I hope she is alright. Has anyone heard anything? I am worried about her.

All I know is what I've read here, which seems to suggest she's out for medical reasons until sometime in May. I have no idea if that's even close to being true. Apparently, nobody is talking. I'm scheduled to see her on June 1. I don't mind seeing another doctor, but I'm just concerned for her well-being. She's become a pretty special person in our lives. All I can say is my wife and I saw her in March and she looked fine. I was in the hospital overnight for a maintenance procedure, and she came down to see me.

We saw her at the end of March/early April and thought she looked exhausted, but chalked it up to working so hard.

Would truly appreciate any updates/info -- as she too is an important member of our family. I hope she's doing OK.

I have been praying for her. I hope it is just a much needed rest she is taking. Or maybe something she needed to get done health wise that was not urgent and now she is recovering. Like bunion surgery or something. We all need her so much.

I have been praying for Dr K as well. I hope to see her on my appointment on May 16th.

Today I had a pump flush and an appointment with my local oncologist who is Dr K's friend and I asked him whether he knows something. He told me she must be doing well and is most likely on vacation. I know she was in NO. Grouseman was right.

Dr K is so precious to many of us.

I just noticed that my May 9th appt is now with another doctor. I called Dr. K's office. The woman who answered (didn't recognize her voice/name) was pleasant but seemed to be a little evasive. She said that Dr. Kemeny is okay...she is just out of the office for a while and will "be back before we know it."???? She said she is "okay" and they know that everyone is worried about her.....but "she will be back soon". And that is all that she would say.

This may not be pertinent, but my best friend is being treated at the Sloan satellite office in Westchester. In February, she was informed by her doctor that she (the doctor) was leaving Sloan along with 3 other doctors at that location. They were moving as a group to another hospital in the area. My friend was reassigned to a new oncologist, but before her first appointment she was notified that this new doctor had gone on "personal leave" and it wasn't know when or if she would return. My friend has been reassigned again. It seems like something is going on internally at Sloan, but I hope it's just a series of coincidences.

Cynthia, thanks for the update! :D I've been told details before when Dr. K was at a conference, on vacation, or traveling, so my feeling is this is something different. Glad to hear she said Dr. K would "be back soon." Knowing her, I imagine she finds being away from her patients as hard as we find it being away from her. You can bet she is being informed of everything!

UPDATE: At my MSKCC visit yesterday the PA and one of the chemo nurses said that Dr. K is expected to be back in the office next week. That she was out for personal reasons. I hope she is okay...just wanted to let you all know what I heard yesterday from the staff.
