Ewwww more sticky poo... UPDATED

Postby CLD » Mon Apr 25, 2016 6:43 am

Alright everybody, I need your advice. DH has been working A LOT lately but had a day off yesterday. Well he kept farting all day long and it was STINKY. Not as bad as immediately before dx, but my son started lighting candles again. DH also told me his poop is STICKY again and he has to wipe soo much it hurts his but  He said sometimes he feels constipated. Soooooooo, 1 year colonoscopy was all clear in Jan, CEA remains 2.3. However, next dr apt not until June and next scan not until August. He says his diet changed since it is harder to eat at work. I"m not so convinced. He eats a gluten free and a high protein, low carb diet his onc suggested. He takes daily asprin and probiotic. Should I call behind his back? He wants to wait a couple weeks. WHo should I call, Onc or GI? Thanks all and have a great day!

Since the chemo I am perpetually constipated. The first thing is to drink plenty of water. Also warm liquids at night and in the morning such as an herb tea. I also use Senakot that has a stool softener and that keeps things moving.

You have to kind of experiment around, but the chemo did a number on me.

PS

You also have to play around with diet. The big problem is that the things that help keep you regular also tend to cause gas. Nuts and raw carrots are okay for me, but I wish I could eat far more veggies without terrible gas.

I had constant problems with this pre colostomy AND since but its not as much as a problem with a colostomy. I dont know what it is but it used to take me a whole darn roll of toilet paper to clean up! Really annoying. Maybe a daily stool softener lie Miralax or Lactulose?

I am still having issues with poop and gas and it's been over a yr since surgery, over 6 months chemo ended. Very smelly gas and bouts of constipation and diarrhea. I take miralax daily, gas x, etc.

Foul gas goes with bowel surgery. If I eat the wrong foods its pretty bad & I live alone. Might I suggest a bidet if you don' t already have one? My ass would be raw after popping if I didn't have one. Maybe he needs to drink more water? Also working can be hard on digestion. If I work multiple days in a row sometimes I'm constipated the whole time.

Thanks for your answers. I guess I'm just afraid this is an early recurrence sign...

Please don't go behind his back and call. I personally would be so ticked if my husband did that regardless of his good intentions. It is not unusual after cold n surgery to have bouts where GI gets out of whack. Try small frequent meals which is less stressful on the system. When I feel out of whack it usually try to give it a week to calm down and try to be more conscious of what I am eating that might be causing issues. Hope it quiets down soon.

So as DH continues to have symptoms, he asked me to call GI and ONC today (he can't call from work). GI will see him tomorrow, onc scheduled scans for Friday. Will keep you posted.
