I'm panicking. Point me in the right direction please.

Postby RichZ » Sun Apr 10, 2016 9:10 pm

Hi there

I'm a 37/m. Here's my story. About 11years ago, I started to have some pretty frequent bleeding. Sometimes in the toilet, sometimes on the tissue.... Bright red. Along with that, severe pain to where I was sitting on a donut, but couldn't find hemmoroids. The pain gradually went away. Bleeding still was there. About 5 years ago, I went and got a colonoscopy. Dr said there was some small polyps but that everything looked normal. Come back in 10 years... Bleeding is still there, now I have severe anal itching, anal leakage (after I wipe, hour later it's like I never wiped.... Some discharge, bright ride jelly like blood on top of stool in the toilet, my stool is either flat or diarrhea, always painful to wipe. When it's not painful, it's severely itchy. I don't know what to do. I look at symptoms of colorectal cancer, and I have ALL of them. Yet the dr told me I'm all good. So wtf? It doesn't make any sense. HELP!!

Hi RichZ. Sorry you had to come, but glad you did. Lots of good people and info here. I'm a newbie myself, so will default to what I'm pretty sure others will say, which is go to a GI and insist on having another colonoscopy done. There are plenty of folks who had development happen quickly, even after a prior clean colonoscopy, so you have to be your own advocate and sometimes insist on things. If all goes well, the worst you were was over-concerned. If not, you may save your life. Best wishes and prayers for you, and let us know how things go.

Repeat colonoscopy with another endoscopist, a good one. Depending on the skills and quality of prep, dr might or might not see the lesion... besides, flat polyps (usually malignant) are quite hard to see even with the good prep. You might also have diverticulitis, better than cancer, but could be life threatening because of the internal bleeding... Need a GOOD scopist...

Lets hope it is not cancer, kinda too much blood for cancer... May be they missed hemorrhoids too... It cant be that you have such a persistent blood issues and there is nothing that they can see.
Let us know, best, Vilca

I have to agree with everyone else .. get a colonoscopy. Do not give up until you get the answer. I got misdiagnosed twice, went around the doctor and got my own colonoscopy and a cancer diagnosis. Had I given up and accepted the doctor's diagnosis of IBS, I might not have the chance that I now have. Never give up.

Please get another colonoscopy pronto. The fact that you had "some polyps" five years ago, is plenty of justification for another scope now, especially with your symptoms. Vilca's advise is excellent. I have a lot of problems getting a good prep before a scope and it does make a difference with the quality of the results.

Please let us know how things are going for you. I understand you are nervous, but there are other possibilities for those symptoms, so getting the scope is very important. Lois

Sorry you're going through this. I would get a colonoscopy stat, just to make sure everything is ok & for peace of mind. I'm 35/F. I was having blood and mucous in stool last year which I thought were hemorrhoids due to a previous childbirth. I had been seeing it on and off for a couple of years, but kept ignoring it. I finally made an appt. with a GI doctor about it & he did a colonoscopy on me. So glad I went in, because he found a 1.2 cm tubulovillous adenoma polyp in me (benign fortunately). I have to see him again this December for a surveillance colonoscopy. Lots of things can cause blood in stool from benign things to more serious, but the only way you'll know is to get a colonoscopy. Good luck, keep us posted!

Good grief, please get another colonoscopy! Every year you wait makes treatment that much more difficult....whether cancer or Ibs or diverticulitis, you got to be yore own advocate.

If one thing you learn from this board its cold hard facts. Right betwixt the eyes. No sugar coating
