Almost 4 years out, concerned re rectal recurrence

Postby jean60 » Fri Apr 01, 2016 5:54 pm

Hello all,

I need some help. As you can see from my signature, I'm almost 4 year out from 111B rectal cancer. Last colonoscopy was in early fall of 2015. (my surgeon's schedule). For the past month or so, I 've been experiencing a change in my 'new normal' bowel habits (I have a j pouch) in that I've been verging constipation....something that REALLY hasnt' been apart of my experience. Also started to have what I would call discomfort inside (can't say its my rectum because I don't have one, but you get the picture). That has progressed to really uncomfortable stuff and is present a good deal of the time.

I decided not to mess around and called my onc who has scheduled me for a colonoscopy on Monday. Then 3 days ago my stool turns bright green. No kidding, what next? Nothing I've eaten would account for this.

I'm concerned. No, scared and trying not to be. We will find out how things look in there Monday. I'm looking for anyone who might have had a similar experience to any of this and will really appreciate any feedback I get.

Jean

By the way I cannot figure out how to edit the title of this post. I really don't live in a place where time is measured in 'yeras' just not typing well right now.

Hmm... I think there is something wrong with your billiary system - gallbladder, or liver ducts... the green thing... MRI would help to see what is going on in that area... I do not think it is rectal cancer related.
Hang in, hugs, Vilca Pls, let us know later.

Also pouches can and do scar, stiffen and/or prolapse. That's what happened to me. I was almost completely obstructed. Diagnosed with a defecating proctogram.

Green stool (if memory serves me correctly) happens when the fecal matter moves through the digestive system too quickly. It can be accompanied by diarrhea but, when I've had it, it is usually uncomfortable and gassy.
Best you see your doc, but the green stuff isn't generally associated with rectal cancer...

Thanks Vilca. My gallbladder has been gone for many years but yes, I think the green stuff is liver related. I will update after the colonoscopy on Monday...

Thanks, Jachut. Did you have discomfort/pain with the pouch issues? Did they repair it or is that possible? Sorry, I should have looked at your signature more closely.

Yes, I have a feeling there are doctor appointments on the horizon. The green stuff is going strong but oddly enough not really gassy at all. Thanks for your post...
