A little victory

Postby recruiter » Mon Mar 21, 2016 2:53 pm

The pain in my rectal tumor is 99 percent gone after my first two chemo treatments. I realize that's maybe nothing, but it means something to be off the pain pills.

Also have lost the feeling that I'm struggling to get normal BMs out as the next treatment approaches, so I'm pretty confident it's shrinking.

Adding Avastin to treatment three this week. I have a LOT of post-treatment diarrhea, but I'm learning to deal with it. Immodium. Don't leave home without it.
DX Stage 4 2/16 with lung mets
4/16 CT, PET show "marked improvement" in size and number of lung mets, rectal tumor.
8/16 "Great report" from scans, lung mets continue to shrink in size and number, CEA 1.6, cancer "in remission" but surgeon believes tumor remains too large.
10/16 Xrays for constipation problems reveal tumor occupies 25 percent of rectal canal: Occupied 80 percent upon diagnosis 2/16
12/16 Back on Avastin; tumor can be removed, but need better margins.

Fantastic news, Bill! You're right that the reduced pain means the tumor is shrinking! :D

It's good they are adding Avastin. Some people get a mild increase in blood pressure with Avastin so keep an eye on that. Also be cautious with the post-treatment diarrhea and make sure you're staying hydrated. Drink something with electrolytes like a sports drink to keep from losing too much potassium.

VATS rt. lung 12/2012 - benign granuloma!
