Dear SuseB, So sorry you are experiencing the muscular issues as well as neuropathy. I too had severe calf cramping and hand clawing and also had some issues with my lips cramping of all things.

My oncologist decided to deliver the chemo I received at the hospital at a slower rate which helped immensely. It didn't totally alleviate the cramping, but reduced it a lot. It did make for a very long day at MDA, but it was worth it. The chemo rate for the pump infusion remained the same.

I hope you get some relief!

This could be a sign of blood clots in your leg or DVT (deep vein thrombosis). You need to have this checked. My husband had this cramping / pain and it turned out he had 5 clots in the calf. Added Lovenox and cleared right up. I believe it was related to the Avastin.

I found a nice big push of magnesium and calcium was a deal maker to lessen the calf cramping.

Suseb, I am wondering if this issue was ever solved for you? I have been experiencing severe calf cramping for the last week. I started adding more calcium to my diet through a multivitamin and extra calcium. I can't really tell if it is helping yet. I also started wearing compression socks and that does seem to help. Weird thing for me is this started 3 weeks after chemo. I had a bad reaction to round 2 and have been off. No problem in my hands just my legs.

Hi Stewsbetty...not really. They reduced my dose of oxi, and then stopped it all together after 4 rounds and switched me to FOLFIRI. My hands and legs never got better when I was on FOLFOX

Interesting. They lowered my dose this time and I have finally started #3. Hoping I can tolerate it well otherwise we will have to consider other treatment options.
