Newbie - questions?

Postby WT55 » Sat Mar 12, 2016 9:54 pm

Hello everyone this is my first time here. About a month ago I had a colonoscopy and had several precancer polyps removed and one found to be cancerous. They made me an appointment with a surgene who I see this week. The biopsy showed abnormal cell growth. A week ago my doctor told me I have skin cancer and now I have a lymph node in my neck that is very tender and swollen. Should I be concerned about the new findings. Plus everyone keeps telling me I look really pale and I feel really bad physically.

Sorry you find yourself here.
First, make sure you are going to a certified colorectal surgeon, not a general surgeon.
Either your GI or regular doc should send you for a CT scan or MRI or PET scan.

I don't know about juggling two cancers but hopefully someone who does will jump in.
Good luck.

So sorry you have to join our club ...which you wi find to be full of sympathetic and supportive fellow travellers and their families.
You need a medical oncologist as well as a specialized surgeon. In many cases surgery is not the recommended first treatment step but, rather, follows chemo and radiology. Look for a cancer center where a team of specialists cares for you and they coordinate and sequence the treatments. Many large hospitals organize oncology that way. The surgeon you are going to see may already be part of such a team... definitely ask. but in any event do not go directly into surgery before an oncologist has reviewed your complicated case of 2 cancers and recommended the right sequence of interventions for you. It's also common for people to get two opinions from the same kind of specialist..doctors are used to it..
You are in the most psychologically painful stage right now..you are desperate to DO SOMETHING and facing all this uncertainty. .. It actually gets better once you can pick a treatment course with doctors that give you confidence. .
All the best..

Hi WT55,
Have you have blood tests? Your paleness could be caused by anemia with is often associated with CRC.

Sorry your here ..

And well I was also given the 2 for 1, double trouble cancer special .. Cause people like us are RARE BUT NOT UNUSUAL .

Colon cancer and follicular lymphoma.

You need to make sure you are at a hospital that is approvd by the national cancer institute and you best make sure you see a surgeon that is a colon cancer specialist..

Plus you may want to be tested for lynch syndrome.

You need blood work done. The gland in the neck could be a ton of things.

All my cancer was found when I got sick after eating Chinese food. I felt like hell.. Went to the ER . They diagnosed me with GERD and then I had an endoscope and a colonopspy that found H-Pylori and a precancerous polyp .. The combo of GERD and H - Pylori these things ...I was ready to call the coroner and let him know to expect my body soon. Seriously thought I was on death row. I saw three GI - DRS two said it was precancerous and the third one said it was cancerous. The third DR who said it was cancerous ordered a CT scan, which found swollen lymph nodes next to my aorta. Then ordered a pet scan only spot that lit up was the chest. So bam I got the 2 for 1 double trouble special...

Please get second and third opinions and make sure the hospital is a national cancer institute along with a onocology colon surgeon.

Keep us posted I wish you the best.
