new-Liver met and lung things...advice?

Postby TracieLynn » Wed Mar 09, 2016 7:23 pm

I'm stage 3b, and finished Xeloda/Oxi in November (2015). Had my scan in December and there was a suspicious spot on my liver. rescanned with CT and PET a couple of weeks ago and Boom! 7mm spot on right lobe liver considered a met and a few suspicious spots on the lungs. My Onc at Northwestern flat out said, "I want it out. It looks near the front and hope he can do lapro" and referred me to a liver surgeon; I meet with him tomorrow. I've had lots of great support and advice so far (ask about SRS/SRBT, be careful of biopsy requests as seeding may be a concern, etc).
I know lots of people here have experienced this in both liver and lungs. All spots are in measuring 8 mm or less so far-only one met in liver-the other appears to be a cyst.
Not sure what I will hear tomorrow but I am looking for any additional advice/info on
1) questions to ask, etc..
2) if anyone in similar situation followed surgery with chemo
3) recovery (obviously varies with open vs lapro and amount of liver removed with resection.
I'm hearing that I want this out if he will take it out and I'm running with that mindset now.
Thanks all!

A CEA of .8 sounds awesome. Mine has never been below 2.1 and that was immediately after HR. CEA is more indicative of liver than lungs.

Let me know my friend! I'll be home all day tomorrow!

I had a wedge resection to remove 1 met from my liver in June 2014. My primary was removed in 2012 when I was stage 2.

1) questions to ask, etc..
- lapro vs open... my hepatic surgeon told me 99% are done open. But the open took way longer to hear than lapro so ask!
- incision can be done with a crescent shape from between the nipples towards the right side ribs OR nipples to belly button. If you have a preference, speak up.
- RFA vs resection?
- where is it and does it impact the hepatic artery?

2) if anyone in similar situation followed surgery with chemo
- controversy here for sure. You'll see both sides. My onc wanted chemo but some here didn't. To do it again I'm not sure what I'd pick. Doing chemo again really screwed up my brain :/

3) recovery (obviously varies with open vs lapro and amount of liver removed with resection.
- the incision took forever to heal for me compared to other surgeries and still cause nerve pain
- but I was up and walking the next day!
- took about 8 weeks to walk upright. I was in the gym around 8 weeks (but I'm weird!)

If you want more info about it, just PM me :)
