Call your surgeon's office right away. It's good that you're taking liquids. Keep that up. As to the food and nausea, I had some of that, as I recall, but if you're vomiting, that's something your doctor should be aware of. Sounds to me like a reaction to medicine, but that's just one possibility. Anyway, call the doc asap.

Call your doctor or go to ER you might have a small blockage. I was fine for my first two days then the wheels fell off. I had nausea and vomiting. They did CT scan and found my stomach was size of a soccer ball and I had a fistula at my Illo. They called it an ileus. It is when your intestines don't completely wake up. I had to have a NGT tube for several days.

Thanx for the replies, I went to the hospitals again, my surgeon believes that I have dehydration, no blockage since the stoma is working!
I am now on IV fluids I don't know for how long it's gonna be And still no sense for food.

Glad to hear it's nothing too serious. Dehydration is serious, but nothing compared to a blockage--especially since they're addressing it with an IV. It's easy to become dehydrated with an ileostomy because one of the colon's main jobs is absorbing fluid from your stool. With an ileo, it just goes into the bag instead of into your body. There were times when I was exercising in hot weather that I could barely drink enough water to stay ahead of the game.

If food continues to be unappetizing, try drinking some supplements loaded with nutrients, etc. You need your nutrients to heal and recover.

Anyway, thank for the update and here's hoping you get home asap. Home is where you heal.

When you say no sense for food, do you mean nausea or just no desire to eat? Because I had no desire to eat for a very long time after my LAR and ileostomy. I just had no desire to put food in my mouth. It didn't gross me out or make me sick, I just didn't want it. I drank Ensure and tried to eat small high protein snacks five or six times a day instead of large meals. Eat what appeals to you even if it isn't the healthiest option including fast food or milkshakes. After any kind of abdominal surgery, it takes a while to have an appetite again for most people, but especially this one. Hang in there and just try to get calories and nutrition in several times a day until food appeals to you again. And remember to chew, chew, chew everything you eat until it is basically paste in your mouth so it can come out the ileostomy easily and doesn't cause a blockage. And drink. When you think you've have plenty to drink, drink some more. I had problems with dehydration several times with my ileostomy. Watch for decreased urination, darker color urine, dizziness, and chapped lips.If you get to the point where you have these symptoms, call your doctor or go to the emergency room for IV fluids. Dehydration can be dangerous and can affect your kidneys.

Good luck!

I agree with SAMs wife and say go with a low residue diet for 6 weeks or so, and then slowly start to incorporate the other foods you enjoy on a trial basis and if they work for you that is awesome. That is what was suggested to me by my nurses and it worked well. I can eat everything now, it's just some foods go through me faster than others or more liquids than others and so it's more effort to always be going to the bathroom to empty. I still just eat what Infeel like and if it's more work for me I'll deal with it. I haven't had a blockage yet.

My surgeon told me to eat whatever I wanted after the surgery but I was afraid to have any complications so I followed the nurses advice instead. I really wanted an egg roll with bean sprouts in it and because I had lost so much weight my surgeon said "Have ten!" I suppose he must not see many issues with diet following the surgery.
