I am not an expert. That said, some links for you:

If a box appears asking for login, click outside of it and it should go away.

http://www.grandroundshealth.com is a referral service that will provide doctors for a fee. I haven't used it but if you need a good specialist it might help.

Mayo Clinic and Mt. Sinai Hospital appear to offer treatment for it.

Also NYU Langone: http://nyulangone.org/doctors?condition ... al-fistula
Male, false negative colonoscopy age 48
DX: 12/2010 rectal cancer age 51
Stage T3N0M0 2 cm from anal verge
neoadjuvant rad/chemo Xeloda
Rectal resection (open surgery) straight anastomosis
Xeloda round 2
ileostomy reversal 11/2011
Successful adhesion X-lap 8/2013
Ongoing LAR syndrome but NED 10 years

Hi! I don't know if you are anywhere near Ohio, but the colorectal surgery department at Cleveland Clinic is one of the best in the country. They often repair other doctor's mistakes, I learned when I was there.

Hope for a great outcome for you.

Thanks, Laura!
I have looked into the Cleveland Clinic because I know their reputation. But there is an overwhelming number of doctors . Did you like your surgeon? Would you be willing to share his or her name?

Thanks!

I had mine done during my APR, so I had two surgeons: a colorectal doing the rectum side and a.... Ahhhh.... It was either an oncological gynecologist or a gynecological Oncologist... I think the first one. But my colorectal surgeon recommended him. I met him the day of the surgery. I'm not sure I had a "great experience." It's just a mess down there because of everything. Lots of scar tissue. I had my womb and ovaries taken out, too, to reduce the risk of spread, so it was a really big surgery.

My gynecologist had recommended a gyno surgeon who specialized in that procedure before I was diagnosed with a tumor. Women get them during childbirth sometimes so I read about some women who had it done and their experiences. Usually a gyno specialist.

Do you have one from a tumor? Sorry, didn't catch your signsture.

Jane, my surgeon does not do those procedures. But the chief of the grouping Dr. Remzi is amazing. If I had anything tricky that needed done, I would go to him. My roommate up there had an amazing series of repairs for an issue and got her life back. She had had RC complicated by a fistula and failed reversal. If you are interested, check out his video on the website. My guess is that he does the surgery or if not, could lead you in the right direction.
Hope this helps.

PITA, thank you for sharing your story. Sounds like you have been through the ringer! Yes, it is a choice with pelvic repairs to go the gyno route or the colorectal surgeon. Sorry you had such a tough experience.

Re: Please Recommend a Fistula Surgeon (Recto-Vaginal) UPDATE

Postby Badass » Mon Feb 15, 2016 9:22 pm

I saw my home surgeon today. He performed my LAR surgery several years ago and has been following me since then. He did an in-office exam and said that he could not find a fistula and my vaginal and "rectal" tissue look very healthy. He said my anastomosis was a classic textbook- perfect outcome. He doesn't doubt my symptoms but feels they are so mild and intermittent and everything looks so healthy that he recommends no further treatment. I am both relieved and a bit unsettled. I don't know whether to get a second opinion or leave well enough alone. But I thought I would provide this update while I ponder.
