Julie you are correct he will do it by the Da Vinci robot , he did say he didn't expect to have to do a colostomy or anything but after reading a little about LAR it made me think that colostomies were a given. Glad to know they are not. Thanks!

My tumor was rectosigmoid but was far enough up in the sigmoid that they called it colon cancer. I was marked for an illeostomy but didn't need one. I had an open surgery. Glad you are having robotic.
Diagnosed 10/28/14, age 36
Colon Resection 11/20/14, LAR (no illeo)
Stage 2a colon cancer, T3NOMO
Lymph-vascular invasion undetermined
0/22 lymph nodes
No chemo, no radiation
Clear Colonoscopy 04/29/15
NED 10/20/15
Ischemic Colitis 01/21/16
NED 11/10/16
CT Scan moved up due to high CEA 08/21/17
NED 09/25/17
NED 12/21/18
Clear colonoscopy 09/23/19
Clear 5 year scans 11/21/19- Considered cured! :)

I refer to my cancer as colon cancer, even though it was in my rectum, unless I'm talking to someone who might know the technical difference. People are not as familiar with the term "rectal cancer", and why make a distinction when it makes no difference?

Not so far as I know. I had an LAR for rectal cancer with no colostomy (or any ostomy).
