New drug for stage IV

Postby missjv » Wed Feb 03, 2016 10:41 am

I ran across this by accident and for some reason I can't copy link here but there is a new drug approved by fda in sept 2015 called Lonsurf (Tipiracil/Triflurdine for stage IV who have been on all other chemos it comes in pill form. One would think if you are stage IV your doctor would mention it but I talked to a few stage IV people i know and their docs have never mentioned it as an option but info on the drug looks promising for extended survival.

There are other threads here that mention it if you do a search.

Ok new to all of this, do I have to try all of the other drugs before starting this one? Just curious, still in the beginning of treatment but had some not so fun heart related issues with my chemo infusion. I know we won't change at this point since it was only once but I like to have information.

The std. Use of chemo is FOLOFOX (first line), FOLFIRI (second line), and after that Stivarga ( tough side effects), and now Lonsurf ( Effectivity TBD). This sequence is for KRAS mutant which I have. The KRAS wild type will have some variant that will include Erbitux.
