Thread for January scans

Postby NZJay » Sun Jan 10, 2016 3:35 pm

Good morning and Happy New Year to all of you.

My last CT scan was January 2015, and I am due for another this month.

It will be my 26-month scan, and as 80% of recurrences happen in the first two years, this is a Big Deal to me.

Just to be cool, my doctors haven't yet given me a date  just that it will be "some time in January"! Pretty helpful with planning my summer holidays etc haha.

Anyway, who else is due for a scan this month? :D

I just had my 3 year scan last week. The radiologist report said no changes since my last scan December of 2014. The only bummer was the radiologist picked up some mild to moderate degeneration of some discs in my vertebrae. I guess all those years playing competitive volleyball is starting to catch up to me now. It could explain some of the sharp pains I've been experiencing in my lower left lumbar. Another thing which was a bit concerning was a lesion in my left kidney picked up in the last scan which my oncologist said was most likely cyst. He said it's pretty common to see a cyst pop up in the kidneys after going through 5FU treatment. But this scan showed the lesion is gone now.

One thing that has happened since going through this whole cancer journey is that I've learned to at least be able to see what the radiologist and the oncologist is looking for in the CT scans in the liver. I'm not saying I can read CT scans as a medical doctor but I sort of know what to look for at least as it pertains to the liver.

I was also fortunate to find out the results the day I had my scans. As I've always done, I've asked when the radiologist would probably have the report completed and called back later in the day to check on the status. My scan was completed around 11 in the morning and my report was done around 2 in the afternoon. My follow up appointment with my oncologist to go over the scan reports is set for 2 weeks from my scan date. I chose not to wait till the appointment. Incidentally, my oncologist did contact me a couple of days after my scan was done to let me know everything checked out ok. But it's sort of funny, I already knew it before he told me.

So the long and the short of it is, I'm now 3 years NED.

I dont post often but i always read, I hope everyone has good results.

Hi.
My mum had pet scan results yesterday. The small lung nodule was active. Everything else was clear. Part of the original spread apparently from over six years ago. She is content with the results.
All the best to everyone waiting.
