peritoneal activity

Postby Turbo » Sat Jan 02, 2016 6:26 pm

My last weeks Ct came back with this news

" There is a new micronodular pattern of ill-defined soft tissue in the anterior mesentery consistent with peritoneal carcinomatosis "

Onc mentioned growths in abdominal walls & switched treatment from FLOFOX to FLOFRI.

Did a bit of research into peritoneal & it sounds like a common progression of CRC, but that chemo has little effect on it .

Anyone have any insights ?
Sept 2014 DX Stage4 Colon w. Met liver, Lung & Lymph nodes
Tumor removed was obstructing sigmoid colon
Dec 2014 Start Capox 1800 Xeloda /2 day
April 2015 Switched to Flofox , after 6 months stomach could not tolerate Xeloda, rapid weight loss, stopped eating
Flofox MUCH easier on digestive system, every Nurse after switch said " no one handles Xeloda well "
2015 Dec CT finds Peritoneal lining mets so switched from Oxaliplatin to Irinotecan ( Camposar)

Find out if you are a hipec surgery candidate. If they don't do hipec in sask they can send you to BC or Ontario (mount Sinai/pmh).

I have ongoing peri mets. I have had them removed via surgery, I have also had them surgically removed in conjunction with HIPEC. HIPEC is the gold standard for treating peri mets, and can be curative for some. It didn't work for me, however we are currently managing my disease with a combination of chemo and surgery. Chemo has worked on my peri mets, both in shrinking them/keeping things stable. However, it is commonly reported to not be particularly effective for some patients. Everyone's experience is unique, it seems. My advice would be to consult with a surgical oncologist who specializes in HIPEC, to determine if you would be a candidate for that procedure. It's tough, but probably your best bet. Best of luck to you!

Asked Onc about HIPEC.

He said my other mets cause me to not be a candidate.

Mentioned a high mortality rate of the surgery & a lot of complications.

I will have to do more research, his response seemed to be overly simple.

Thanks

What kind of chemo have you had and which is working for you?

6 months CAPOX
6 Months FLOFOX
liver tumors died somewhere in there , but lung mets multiplied into the hundreds. So hard to tell what worker & didn't.

Now peritoneal lining mets are the latest change.

I too have perinoteal carcinomatos. Chemo didn't work on my mets. I had 1 round of FOLFIRINOX/5FU but had a reaction to the irinotecan. I then did 5 rounds of FOLFOX/5FU with the last 4 rounds having Avastin added.

I've seen 3 different oncologists in the last month and none of them are willing to do any type of surgery on me. They don't think it would be beneficial in my case - maybe because I'm already stage IV. I've been asking about HIPEC since I started chemo, but they keep telling me no.

We all react differently to treatments - I'm hoping that you find one that will work on your perinoteal mets. Best wishes to everyone.
