We are seeing Dr. Won now but from what I understand they work as a team and my husband's treatment was decided by committee rather than just one oncologist. Is this true?

Yes, when they are deciding treatment for a patient, they discuss the patient at their peer review meeting on Thursdays. Dr. Dematteo is a very skilled surgeon, your husband was in very good hands.

Here is a good blog post that gives an overview of the peer review board. I would be confident in the current treatment plan for your husband. If he needs the pump down the road, they will put it in.

Hi -

We sought-out Dr Kemeny because we wanted Pete to be in the BEST position to be cured.
Our original ONC in CT only wanted to resect and wait and see ........We did not want that.
Crazylife - Just sent you a PM.

Not great news to report. First CT showed a small (3 mm) lesion on his lung and 2 active lymph nodes. Feeling really discouraged and sad. He starts chemo today and really hoping that will take care of it all. I feel like this is the beginning of a long road.

A 3mm module is not necessarily spread cancer. Lots of people have completely benign lung nodules. I think that is even too small to biopsy! and Lymph involvement at stage 4 is very very normal. What 2 lymph nodes are involved? I know for my husband he had a few had ones near the primary show up on his CT scan and PET. He had some on near the liver show as enlarged on CT scan, but they didn't light up on the PET. Same with some deeper mesentery ones. I know when Dr. D removed the ones near the liver he thought they didn't look cancerous, he said they were too squishy. And yes, unfortunately you are at the beginning of a long road. I am sorry you both have to go through this. But, you are getting treatment at one of the best cancer centers in the world.
