CRC/Immunotherapy Expert Roundtable Meeting This Week

Postby DK37 » Mon Nov 30, 2015 7:12 am

I've been involved with the lead-up to this Dec. 2 meeting via working with both Fight CRC and CRI. I have hopes of the productive discussion that will occur when so many CRC & immunotherapy experts from a wide range of research institutions and companies are all sitting together, this kind of large joint round table meeting has never happened before.

-DK
Pasted from the link at the bottom:
On December 2, the two organizations will bring together over 20 global experts in immunotherapy, GI oncology and basic science in New York City for a discussion on the current state of science and the future direction of immunotherapy research for colorectal cancer therapies. A white paper, Evaluating the role of immunotherapy: Addressing the potential for breakthrough treatments for colorectal cancer, will be released in April 2016 following the American Association of Cancer Research annual meeting. -

Rallying Leading Experts
A multidisciplinary group will be led by Dung T. Le, M.D., from Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Al B. Benson III, M.D., FACP, from the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University. It will be the first time the following leading experts in colorectal cancer immunotherapy research have all convened around the same table:

Dr. Emily Chan, Vanderbilt University
Dr. Dustin Deming, University of Wisconsin
Dr. Luis Diaz, Johns Hopkins
Dr. Wolf Fridman, INSERM

People involved in the meeting are taking it very seriously, so I am hopeful that good will come out of it. All eyes are on some of the other major cancers with recent immunotherapy success. We (and all the CRC advocates & CRC scientists) want MSS CRC's turn now too!

I will be praying that some new research ideas for those that are CRC MSS come out of this exciting meeting! My DH is running out of viable treatment options! He continues to be in the TAS-102 trial, but we don't have another good option after thal! Thank you for keeping us updated about this landmark event!! Miracles do happen and this event, with all of these great scientific minds together for the first time, is a testament of that belief!!

I haven't heard specifics yet (unfortunately I was unable to attend in person) but in terms of generalities, I believe that MSS CRC was intended to be a MAJOR focus of discussion.

Everyone knows us MSS folks need help - cross-pollination of unpublished data discussion and next steps brainstorming at a group of experts-level meeting such as today's can only speed things up, it was really important that this meeting occurred... They know we are all trying to hold on, waiting for the immunotherapy wave to finally arrive to our corner of the cancer world...
