Still Anemic

Postby DeniseBurkett » Sun Nov 22, 2015 10:00 pm

So... As I mentioned before, it was because of me being anemic that they found the tumor in my colon. They said the tumor was bleeding, causing the anemia. I had the tumor taken out on Oct. 21st. I had my first visit with the Oncologist this past Wednesday, and I was just looking at the results of the CBC online... and it shows I am still anemic. I had a hysterectomy 10 years ago... so there is no blood loss from menses. Is it normal for me to still be anemic?
P.S. I go for a pet scan tomorrow. Pray it finds anything that needs to be found, but that there is nothing to be found. :) Also going to get my port in Tuesday. :) Then Chemo starts December 2nd.
Diagnosed 10-8-15
Right Hemicolectomy 10-21-15
Stage 3 N1
Chemo to start 12-2-15

Denise, you may want to ask your doc - onc or regular doc - about getting your blood counts up before chemo. Let us know what they suggest.

Hi Denise, I don't know if it's normal, but I am 7 months out from treatment and still anemic. Hysterectomy here, as well. The doctors don't seem too concerned.
, told me to take some iron.

Hi Denise
I was anemic at the time of diagnosis, and was advised by my physician to take supplemental iron pills. It's kind of difficult to remember the specifics butt I'm pretty sure I was taking them for several months. I was also getting frequent blood tests to monitor iron levels, CEA etc. Now I've on a 3 month schedule of blood testing, and so far everything looks good.

If I were you, I'd discuss taking some sort of iron pill with your physician.
Best Wishes, peanut

I was also diagnosed because I was anemic and we were looking for the causes. It takes a while for your iron stores to build. It looks like you are only a month out from surgery. I wouldn't be concerned yet, my doctors said it would several months for levels to get back to normal and they did.
