POLL: How many polyps did you have at your first post-diagnosis colonoscopy?

Postby lpas » Sat Nov 14, 2015 10:42 am

Had my one-year colonoscopy yesterday (both Friday the 13th & my cancer-versary!) and they found two polyps. Was just curious about others' experiences? I thought for sure it would be clean after only a year with loads of new supplements, dietary improvements, etc. The GI assured me that they looked totally benign, but still a little disappointed and concerned that I seem to grow trouble so fast.

How many polyps did you have (if any)?

I hope your polyps are benign.*hugs* I had a post surgery sigmoidoscopy that found one benign polyp at the anastomosis site. My colonoscopy was clear. I was surprise that there was a polyp at the anastomosis site during the sigmoidoscopy earlier this year.

I had none and no polyps in my diagnosis colonoscopy either. My tumor was almost right next to my sphincter and flat following the curve of the rectal wall rather than round, so I'm not even sure it started as a polyp.

Hi,
I have had ten colonoscopies in the nearly seventeen years since my stage 3 c colon cancer was removed. On average they have found polyps every second scope , usually one but never more than two. I had one scope at ten years that produced two 2mm polyps showing moderate displaysia. Both were removed during the scope and no further action was required. Ron. I never miss having a scheduled scope.

I had 6! One of which was sessile serrated. My cancer came from a sessile serrated, signet ring cell type, which was hidden behind a fold in my cecum. I'm pretty sure these weren't just missed on the first colonoscopy. My gasto Dr. Was very thorough. I didn't know they could come back so quickly! My Dr. scheduled my next for 3 yrs. it's been 2 of those years and I have really been wondering what's growing in there now

One. My surgeon was very careful to make sure I understood that this was nothing to worry about.

Best,

I had none, BUTT my husband has had UC since he was 20 (45 years) and he usually has one or more polyps at every scope (every two to three years). They are always benign, but some folks do just create polyps faster. Good luck with yours being benign.

I had a couple (benign) 6 months after my first resection....a couple more (benign) 6 months after that as well. I then had a clean scope 6 months after that....but 2 years into my 3 year scope break I ended up with another one that was stage 3. HOWEVER.....I know that I am the exception, not the norm. It can happen,,,,but usually takes much longer. My gastro doc says it is not uncommon to miss one no matter how thorough they try to be....but most likely are benign as they are caught early. And...just like we can get other ailments that are not cancer related...we can also have "regular" polyps just like the general public....and that is what I am hoping for you!! Good luck!

I had 2 very small (less than 1 mm) polyps at my one year colonoscopy. Both benign. My surgeon explained that the orig GI doc didn't see them after finding the 4 cm rectal mass. Been clear every year since (4).
Dx Feb 2010 4 cm tumor, just inside rectum
EUS stated T3 tumor
2nd opinion, need better path
Mar 2010 transanal surgery. Surgery by board certified CRS found tumor only in lining
6 exams of surg site, 3 PET, 3 scopes laterNED.
Scope in Mar2015, clean colon
Next scope/test in 3 years

I, like you, had 2 and was so upset. I guess I was just really wanting a clean one. Luckily, my follow-up a year later was clean! I totally understand you're being upset. But it looks like there isn't a need to be.
