Eric,

I hope it all clears up now that you're back at Sloan. Thinking of you and hoping your stay is short and positive.

Aloha,

Everything is going pretty well. They stuck a small tube in me yesterday--a PICC line, basically, to relive the pressure on the pneumothorax and they're going to send me home if everything looks good, which I think it does. I can get follow-up X-rays and line removed locally.

Looking forward to a decent MSKCC breakfast. Dinner last night (seas bass) was excellent.

Thanks for all your thoughts and encouragement.

I didn't know they could use a smaller tube. Is it more comfortable than the usual one? The big ones are kind of painful when you're laying down to sleep. I think you were smart to head back to Sloan for treatment. Why take chances with locals.

I bet you've been wheel-chaired down to x-ray several times now. I got tired of the ride and convinced them to let me walk behind the chair. (Apparently, you can't go without the chair.) Glad your appetite is good and I hope everything continues to go in a positive direction. Sending lots of good thoughts and prayers the pneumothorax resolves itself soon!!!

The Big tubes are the shits !!! .... I know  ..... only ones I've had ....
however Dad had a Big one out with apparently ... bad technique ... and induced a mild pneumo.
Had the IR insert a "pigtail" ... = small tube to resolve it, and he didn't even feel it going in OR out.

Sometimes : go BIG or go home is good for Medical Centers
Sometimes : go small is BETTER for procedures ...

Hey .... size matters after all !!!!

yeah yeah I know ...
I'll GO now

Cheers and Harmony

Thanks, everyone.

The PICC goes in the front, in this case right on the left front shoulder blade. It's surprisingly comfortable, but I'm not doing anything other than sleeping and sitting up working at the computer. I did drive home from Poughkeepsie with it last night--after an hour and a half train ride from Manhattan to P-Town.

What I do is pin it to the inside of my shirt, and it just hangs down, pretty much out of the way. No stomach sleeping, but I am comfortable in most other positions. It should be coming out next week.

Speaking of wheel chairs, Julie, do you know an orderly named Joe down at the MSK hospital? Guy maybe 60 and in great shape. He told me last time that he walks to Central Park every day--and has for years. This is a man who pushes a wheel chair around all day. Nicest guy in the world--and he remembered me from 3 years ago. We really hit it off, so it was great to see him again
