O/T diversion ... The Voice Fall 2016 !

Postby CRguy » Tue Oct 20, 2015 10:21 pm

anybody watching The Voice ?

We used to have a lotta O/T discussions here about different "diversions" from our CRC lives ....
HOUSE MD was a fave because most of us here knew more than House tried on his patients !!!!!

Of all the "talent" shows I follow, The Voice is best IMO. Good group of coaches, good format, always positive feedback ... AND
GREAT effin' talent !
..... which brings me to the reason I posted here and now

My musical roots encompass pretty much everything from the Duke,Frank and Ella to Pink singing Bobby McGee ! I heard Janis do her original ... Pink nails it.

A few shows ago a guy named Manny Cabo NAILED "Here I Go Again"
I was never a huge HAIR Rock fan BUTT there was some epic stuff back then

The lyrics just reached out to me from his performance, which was itself EPIC ... he kicked ass.
He lost in a battle round ... BUTT the power of his message cannot be lost.

SO.......without further ado ... the original Whitesnake – Here I Go Again Lyrics
I don't know where I'm goin'
But I sure know where I've been
Hanging on the promises in songs of yesterday
An' I've made up my mind, I ain't wasting no more time
Here I go again, here I go again

Tho' I keep searching for an answer
I never seem to find what I'm looking for
Oh Lord, I pray you give me strength to carry on
'Cause I know what it means to walk along the lonely street of dreams

Here I go again on my own
Goin' down the only road I've ever known
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
An' I've made up my mind, I ain't wasting no more time

Just another heart in need of rescue
Waiting on love's sweet charity
An' I'm gonna hold on for the rest of my days
'Cause I know what it means to walk along the lonely street of dreams

And here I go again on my own
Goin' down the only road I've ever known
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
An' I've made up my mind, I ain't wasting no more time
But here I go again, here I go again,
Here I go again, here I go

'Cause I know what it means to walk along the lonely street of dreams
Here I go again on my own
Goin' down the only road I've ever known
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
An' I've made up my mind, I ain't wasting no more time
Here I go again on my own
Goin' down the only road I've ever known
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
'Cause I know what it means to walk along the lonely street of dreams

Here I go again on my own
Goin' down the only road I've ever known
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone

As an ongoing ColoRectal kinda guy... all I gotta say is....
Here I go again on my own
Goin' down the only road I've ever known
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone

'cos WE ALL always have to walk the only road we've ever known
AND that is what makes us who we are

The Voice was developed by the Dutch whose first Prince of Orange, William I,
was known as William the Silent.

Yeah, I'm a big Voice fan. I'm always team Blake. I'm not the biggest country music fan, but he just makes me smile and I like the way he helps the singers on his team make connections in Nashville even if they don't win or place high. Plus, he gives Adam a hard time every week and that really makes me smile!

I don't have a favorite singer yet, but there are a lot of interesting voices this year, lots of unique tones. I loved Hannah's awkwardness and uniqueness last year, plus she could belt! But my favorite last year was Megan. I really thought she would beat Sawyer, but nope.

I know it makes for good ratings and interesting shows, but I hate the way they pit two really good singers against each other in the battle rounds and then two weaker singers in the next battle. I would put my strongest singers (the ones I wanted to keep) up against the weaker ones I wasn't as thrilled with. And I really like the tone of Blind Joe's voice, but he totally stepped all over Blaine's turn to sing and I didn't think that was fair.

Okay, that's my highlights so far. This should be a fun thread.

Speaking of music, anyone listen to Martina McBride's "I'm Gonna Love You Through It"? Very beautiful song, but made me cry.

"I'm Gonna Love You Through It"

She dropped the phone and burst into tears
The doctor just confirmed her fears
Her husband held it in and held her tight
Cancer don’t discriminate or care if you’re just 38
With three kids who need you in their lives
He said, "I know that you’re afraid and I am, too
But you’ll never be alone, I promise you"

When you’re weak, I’ll be strong
When you let go, I’ll hold on
When you need to cry, I swear that I’ll be there to dry your eyes
When you feel lost and scared to death,
Like you can’t take one more step
Just take my hand, together we can do it
I’m gonna love you through it.

She made it through the surgery fine
They said they caught it just in time
But they had to take more than they planned
Now it's forced smiles and baggy shirts
To hide what the cancer took from her
But she just wants to feel like a woman again
She said, "I don't think I can do this anymore"
He took her in his arms and said "That's what my love is for"

When you’re weak, I’ll be strong
When you let go, I’ll hold on
When you need to cry, I swear that I’ll be there to dry your eyes
When you feel lost and scared to death,
Like you can’t take one more step
Just take my hand, together we can do it
I’m gonna love you through it.

And when this road gets too long
I'll be the rock you lean on
Just take my hand, together we can do it
I’m gonna love you through it.
I’m gonna love you through it.

Love the voice - especially blind auditions. My kids like to watch it (and it is one of the few shows they like that doesn't make me cringe) but we don't have that much time to watch together so we always fall behind and dont make it to the end of the season, but the beginning is a lot of fun to watch. Toward the end I often don't agree with the choices - I think it is mostly the young kids who watch live and vote a bunch so you end up with teenagers who while talented aren't really ready for the big time.

Team Adam all the way! Although I hope he grows some hair to cover up his pointy head soon. :)

I love watching the Voice too. You're right, it is the best of the "talent" shows and I have always been a big Idol fan. I don't know too many names yet (but I will). I think there's a lot of good talent this season. I like Shelby, the guys that sings like Stevie Wonder and the young 15 year old boy with the glasses, but there are many others. Love all the judges this time around.

Fun thread!

The dutch invented the voice, but they suck at singing  they also invented the big brother house and the other talent shows like idolsI like the auditions best, always good for a laugh, never watch the live shows though..
The dutch also traded New York for Surinam... What does that tell you...

Here I go again. My own was the sing I usually played when driving to chemo, together with

" well we know where we're going, but we don't know where we've been. And we know what we're knowing but we can't say what we've seen"

Road to nowhere from the talking heads yeah!!!

We've a local high school teacher, Barret Baber, who I can't help but root for.....butt, my fav is Jordan Smith. He blew me away with his rendition of "Chandelier" in his audition. There's unbelieveable talent this year! Will be interesting to see who makes the finale.

I do like the voice, but we have so many shows we watch it's hard to catch them all. BTW, I'm a HUGE hair band lover, that was my music! I love all music really, but the hair band Era reminds me of my younger years :) I was born in 75, so that's one reason :)

My fav audition ever was (not this year) Josh Kaufman's version of George Michael's "One More Try"

Every year one song gains my attention. Sia had a video, Chandelier, I didn't see until this year, just amazing. Jordan Smith blew me away, singing that song 8)

I was sorry to see the twins go last night, though it was an "off" performance for them, I agree w/Adam re: their harmony is like angels. Last season was my first for The Voice & I really enjoy the music, talent.

I thought almost everyone was on their game last night and I really hated to see anyone go. There are so many unique and interesting voices this year. I think there have been some song choices that didn't highlight the voices as well as they might have. The twins, for example. I think their harmony is unbelievable, but I wish they had chosen a different song last night. It's going to be an interesting season, for sure.

As the judges have said, song choice is critical. I agree the twins sound angelic...but Stupid Boy wasn't a good choice for them. Looking forward to next Monday night...my reward for an afternoon CT that I'm uneasy about. It'll be a great distraction for awhile.

I bounce between favorites as the talent is amazing. Last night's Emily Ann Roberts' , Team Blake, blue grass rendition of "Why Not Me" by the Judds knocked it out of the park! She's the whole package @ 17 yrs old, WOW is all I can say.

Yes, the talent is amazing. I was all for Jordan a couple of weeks ago when he sang Halo. Now, I'm really enjoying Jeff. Emily Ann will have a career from this. She's great too.
