Feeding tub VS pills

Postby heidym21 » Mon Oct 19, 2015 2:57 pm

My mom isn't eatting anything because she can't hold anything down. She's been losing weight a lot I mean a lot. Right now she is getting fluids, she needed to get chemo today but she did not receive it. We are also waiting for her PETScan results nervous as heck, hoping we get them today.

So my question is what would you do or what is better to do a feeding tube or pills that make someone hungry.

We were talking to a lady she send a feeding tube is dangerous. Is it dangerous? If so how?

Thanks
My mom was diagnosed with colon cancer stage 3c on 4/2014
Had surgery to remove tumor. 19 lymph nodes removed all cancerous
Had chemo 12rounds finished on 10/2014
Cancer came back. Had fluids in her lungs. Fluids came back cancerous. So docs said its metastatic colon cancer. She's on chemo again. Tumor or tumors don't show up on PETScan nor CTScan. Docs say she Has an odd case

Is the feeding tube during hospice. I'm not very good at searching yet or I would try to find something for you. Sorry. I know she's not doing well from you posting on my question.

A medication called magace (sp?) Works wonder for appetite.
Some doctors try to prescribe 40mg 2x a day but in order to get the therapeutic dose to help them eat it has to be 400mg twice a day.....800mg total daily.
Good luck.
