2 years 7 months since last resection

Postby kiwiinoz » Thu Oct 15, 2015 8:02 pm

Hi Guys

Whilst I still check in and read every day, I don't seem to have a lot to contribute so don't comment much at all anymore.

However I got my scan results last night and still apparently NED 2 years 7 months after last lung resection. Not sure why but I am very happy about this and my thoughts are always with those currently in the midst of active treatment.

I hope this can give some hope to those that may gain some from a post like this.

Jay,
Let me paraphrase. "1/3 of the people in my position go on to be NED. Every day that you remain NED you have a better chance of being in that 1/3."
My next question was at what point would you be comfortable in saying that I am going to be in that group? "I'd like to say 5 years but there is still a small percentage chance of recurrence after 5 years so I'd be looking more at the 10 year timeline for a definitive answer"
Did I mention that one thing I like about my onc is that he is a realist and I guess he has seen everything in his career so he doesn't make statements lightly and it has probably burnt him in the past.
Off to Melbourne in the weekend for another 1/2 marathon so life is good, will celebrate whilst I am there too.
2016 the year for marathons perhaps?

kiwi - Good luck with your run. My wife has more or less given up running. It was too difficult to make any kind of headway towards running even a 5k race while doing maintenance chemo. Unfortunately now she is back to every other week instead of once every three, and they have added iri because of new Peri Mets. Fatigue is really about the worse of her side effects. She crashes most evenings.

Again, have fun on your run. Hope it is a nice scenic route.

Kiwi,
Nice to see you! And congrats! I'm in a similar boat. If scans are clear in a couple weeks, will be two years since liver resection (so NED). I also lurk and read but don't post often these days.

I'm just a dude who still can't believe he had a resection and went through chemo (currently 13 years NED). Is this real life?
