Lingering cold sensitivity

Postby cmewrrie » Thu Oct 08, 2015 4:51 pm

14 days past infusion and DH still can't drink anything even slightly cold without that swallowing glass feeling. I expected that to only last a few days. Anyone else have it longer?
wife of DH (04/24/15 dx: age 43) Low RC T3N0M0 stage 2
4/27/15 clear CT
5/18 - 6/25 chemo/rad (ended xeloda on 6/19 due to side effects)
8/12/15 - ULAR scheduled - APR performed due to location - path showed T1N0M0
9/25 begin 5 rounds of xelox
10/30/15 - switch to xeloda only due to allergic reaction
1/22/16- last xeloda!
3/27/16 - post treatment CT - clear except soft tissue presacral area (possibly scar tissue) CEA .5
4/20/16 - post treatment colonoscopy

Oh my, yes. After about my third infusion, I couldn't have any contact whatsoever with anything cold for several months. That included cold beverages, more's the pity.

Just had to put up with it.

Best,

OG

Yes I had my infusion a week and a half ago and I still can't have anything cold. For me it progressively lingered more with each infusion.

Didn't ever have it that long but microwaved tap water was my friend during those fun times.
I'm just a dude who still can't believe he had a resection and went through chemo (currently 13 years NED). Is this real life?

You did say it's being cut down, right? Hopefully that will help, if not, might be best to get off the oxi completely. It shouldn't last that long, if so, that's not good. Don't want to get permanent as some people have. Might want to try irinotecan instead.

I had 8 oxi treatments. I was sensitive to cold nearly the entire time between treatments. I was warned that this could happen and was just glad it was winter and I could forgo cold drinks for the duration of the treatments. Lois

The cold doesn't bother me so much, but after my 2nd treatment last week, I have a lingering bad taste in my mouth. It hasn't curbed my appetite too much yet, but I can see that happening if it gets worse. Can I hope for improvement between treatments or will this last for the whole ride?

During my 6 months of chemo..I had to drink everything at room temperature. I was surprise to discover the glass pain right after coming home from my first treatment. Whenever we went out to dinner I had to bring my own at room temp. drink with me because everyplace we went their drinks were always cold.

Once my treatments were over...swallowing got back to normal
