Eric's dad diagnosed

Postby beccab1 » Mon Oct 05, 2015 11:48 am

Hi all! So Eric's dad got diagnosed with Rectal cancer this past week. So crazy... Eric tested negative for genetic but obviously seems like it must be - maybe just something can't test for yet. Don't have full dx but seems early, ct tomorrow. Does anyone have a recommendation for a board certified surgeon in the Pittsburgh area. There are so many and the referral he got in his local area doesn't have the greatest reviews.

Thanks!!!

I wish I had some referrals for you.

One thing I'd say is be careful of is patient reviews. Lets just say that bedside manner, the thing that most patient reviews are based on, isn't necessarily a good way to determine a good surgeon.

Absent a true referral, the thing I fall back on is experience. Find a guy who all day does the surgery you're about to have (e.g. don't go to an orthopedic surgeon who focuses on knees to get a hip replacement.).
