O/T I guess...Small Intestine Mesenteric Carcinoid Tumor

Postby kathybrj » Thu Oct 01, 2015 9:19 am

We just got through Blaise's latest CT scan and got the results yesterday. Everything is clear and we were breathing a little easier.

Then I received a call from my brother- he has been diagnosed with a Small Intestine Mesenteric Carcinoid Tumor. He had terrible abdominal pains and had a CT Scan and they spotted it. They are hoping it's regional with no liver mets. He's scheduled for surgery on Wednesday October 7. I've been reading about this cancer and it is very different from the rectal cancer Blaise is (was?) dealing with.

Anyone have any experience with this type of cancer?

I don't know much but I have an aunt with stage IV carcinoid. From what I know it is very slow growing. She has had surgeries and only now after several years is on xeloda, her first chemo therapy. She sees a doctor at Mt. Sinai in New York who is supposedly the top expert in the USA on carcinoid. Wishing you and your family all the best.
