BEV G question

Postby dianetavegia » Tue Sep 29, 2015 2:29 pm

Hi Bev, with the new grandbaby and moving I know you've been super busy but I did try and watch your posts to see .........

Did your new onc use the word cured since you're 6 years out from dx and 5 1/2 since the colon resection/ liver resection with no recurrence?

Love those baby pictures!!
Diane

Hi Diane,

At the time I had made it 5 years after the liver resection without recurrence he told me he was going to proclaim me "cured". However, at that visit he told me he was quite sure I had a new primary because of numerous hilar lesions seen on the CT. The resulted in having a bronchoscopy and a half dozen biopsies done the following week, all of which turned out to be benign, thank God. The thoracic guy didn't know what they were butt were sure they weren't malignant. there was a brief thought about sarcoidosis, butt I don't have that either. So, though I didn't actually see my onc on the magical date, he had already told me I am "cured"...also told me he planned to do NO follow-up. That wasn't OK with me because of the stage IV diagnosis and the very, very small recurrence risk after five years. Before I have gotten a chance to go back in and speak with him about follow-up plans, I got a letter from him saying he's relocating to Boston....So, I know my doc has a fantastic reputation, and he is faculty at one of the Ivies, but I was never really nuts about him. Perhaps even a little less now after him having said he was "quite sure" I had a new primary, scaring the crap out of me. So I will get a different onc at Dartmouth assigned to me and take it from there.

WHat a long answer to your short and sweet question, butt yes, I guess I'm cured.

Oh, Bev, CONGRATULATION!!!!!

I've been watching and waiting for those words from you for sometime now. I would be in seventh heaven to hear the word " cured ". Even if it mean always doing follow ups for the rest of my life. You have given us hope that it is possible.
