Feeling Worried

Postby gracecolon » Thu Sep 24, 2015 12:45 pm

Hi Everyone,
I have never though about joining a forum to ask questions or seek advise, but here goes!

My grandmother was diagnosed with Colon/Bowel Cancer two years ago and it changed our family (as I can imagine anyone who has/had cancer knows) But fortunately she survived.

Reason why I tell you this is because I a 23 year old female, is suffering the same symptoms. Earlier this year I began vomiting for no reason and has abdominal pain on my left side (near my colon/bowl) I went to the doctors and they put it down to ovulating. No 7 months on the pain has become unbearable and my number two's are non existent unless I use heavy laxatives. If I do manage to go on my own it is rabbit pellets. Sometimes there is blood in my poo, not always but sometimes. I have lost two and a half stone though diet and exercise whilst this pain has been happening. I have seen my doctor and they have sent me for bloods and asked me to take Buscapan for pain relief. I cant help but feel worried.

I understand there are people here that are, have, waiting to be diagnosed but I wanted to hopefully get to know my symptoms a bit better. I hope I haven't offended anyone. I didn't really know where else to talk to someone about these things.
thank you

Hi grace -

It is probably not cancer, especially given your age. But, given the family history plus the blood I definitely think you should get a colonoscopy to clear your mind. Try your best not to worry til you get results.

Grace,

It is not unusual for docs to push back with someone so young, and there can be a lot of other conditions that could be causing this. But a colonoscopy is really the only way to be sure about things. So you may have to be a little aggressive in advocating for yourself, but you really need it. The family history is an important thing to emphasize.

Hi everyone,

Thank you all for your support, it means so much. I appreciate it's rare for someone "my age" to have the dreaded c word but like you say my grandmother has recently overcome this. Is it strange to say my body feels different recently. My doctor is useless as is, sometimes being 23 people think it's all in your head, but how often do we hear about girls/women going unnoticed. I don't think it is but can't help but worrie. My bloods will be taken tommorow and the rest I have to wait until the doctor gets my results. THIS GROUP IS AMAZING BY THE WAY! If only I knew about this lifeline when my nan was poorly. Thanks again everyone I will keep you updated xxx

Grace, I'm not a doctor or nurse or medical professional. From your description of symptoms, I think that it is far more likely that you have a partial bowel obstruction, an ovarian cyst/tumor, or something like Crohn's disease. It could even be IBS-C. That said, you NEED to find out for sure!! A colonoscopy or CT scan or even an ultrasound would be the first step, IMHO. Do NOT just sit back and let these doctors ignore you (are you dealing with the NHS?). Any of these things can be serious. I hope and pray that the answer is simple and easily treated. Colon cancer at your age is unlikely, but NOT unheard of. Please DO keep us posted.

Hi curious56

I am going though the nhs. It's so frustrating the doctor is not really helping. They haven't given me no pain relief and have told me if the bloods come back clear they will not investigate further. I am debating whether to keep going back until they sort this problem out. I have never felt pain like it. It is excruciating. I don't want to put it off any longer but sometimes the doctors just phob you off! x

How difficult would it be for you to get a new doctor? This is your life, your comfort we're talking about here! You need a colonoscopy so you can start feeling better. Nobody your age should have to live with this pain in this day and age with so much knowledge and treatments available!

Hi everyone,
Thank you all for your kind words of support. I have had my bloods done and waiting the results should hopefully come back Wednesday. As you can imagine the pain is just the same. I have arranged to see another doctor. I think this will be a long road of backward and forward. I will let you know once bloods come back xxx

Hi Everyone,

So my Bloods have come back and everything is ok, other then the ca125 test. Which is Ovarian Cancer, the receptionist at the doctors kindly let me know that. the doctor dealing with this is back in tomorrow so I should hear back by tomorrow lunchtime. If I am honest I don't really know what to expect. I appreciate this isn't really what the forum is about but I have really appreciated and very overwhelmed by everyone's kind words of advice. I will not disappear to soon as it may not be what the test is highlighting. BUT I will defiantly let you all know

Thank you again
Grace :D
