O/T - spent the night in ER

Postby CRguy » Sun Sep 13, 2015 12:55 pm

Not CRC related so ... O/T !

I emerged around 2 am looking like the fifer in the "Spirit of '76" painting !
( My D-I-L, a nurse thinks more like the Karate Kid ! )
Those who PM'd me overnight sometime ... get back to you soon.

Apparently despite rumors to the effect ... that I am a hard headed SOB ...
apparently not harder than our stackstone fireplace facing

Could have lost an eye, cracked some teeth or smashed some bones ... BUTT I credit my martial arts training for a softer body landing ... just too close to all the jagged stone edges to pull my head back in time.

Deep gash down to the frontal bone complete with stone fragments embedded. Good ER surgeon and a great ER nurse so with a local block and a bunch of flushes later, sutured up looking like a Hallowe'en mask and sent off for CT.

I told the nurse when I returned " They scanned my head and didn't find anything in there ! "
My wife would agree.

the only thing that still hurts ... is where another nurse shoved in a tetanus shot .. in my dominant arm naturally !

Overall not a bad outcome and who can't do with another scar in OUR group

Cheers all

OMG..did you count those sutures? You're going to be a conversation piece @ work w/your clients. Embedded stone fragments? An awful visual to say the least.

Best Wishes toward good healing!

Geez, here I thought I could be the center of attention around here for five seconds with my trip to the ER, but how is a boring case of dehydration ever going to compete with this?? You stole my thunder!

Glad to hear it wasn't even worse, CR, but that sounds very scary. Don't they have to put the needle right into the gash to give you the local??

And yes, tetanus shots hurt like a son of a gun.

Well, that sure does not sound like fun...Glad you are ok...But now I am looking at my brick that is in front of our fireplace in a whole new light..darn something else to worry about!
But now the question is can we all make up stories on what you were doing when you took this tumble and see who comes the closest to the truth? Just think if you had just waited another month you could have just told everyone you just happened to be in the halloween spirit more than usual this year...
No more troublemaking for you!

Thanks homies ! some bruising showing up around my eyes, but feeling pretty damn good considering.

NOT trying to steal Judy's thunder just seems neither of us had anything better to do than visit the big house
Hope you are feeling better my friend.

Yup.. they use a splash block on the cut edges to desensitize, then inject into the wound edges to block nerves on either side of the cut and deep tissues, in my case right down to the bone. Like I told the ER nurse when she said "you did a pretty good job of that ! " ... "Go Big or go home"

apparently I was in good form last night and kept the ER staff and a few fellow patients laughing. Told one guy with a cut hand " there goes my modelling career." He said glad it wasn't him because he actually had a part-time modelling gig to do this week.
A lotta cuts it seems ... the needle nurse came around with a whole tray of tetanus shots and was asking around .... "who needs a tetanus shot ?"

Was actually a very smooth and efficient ER visit from sign in to CT results and out ! I was third in line to start but when I left there were 40 folks waiting ... beat the rush ! This hospital is the lead trauma center around town so weekends are hectic and sometimes bizarre. Had my resection and most follow up here so I was in their system and breezed thru the registration process. Guess there are some perks for having a CRC resumé !

On the way out what appeared to be a homeless guy wrapped in a blanket, sitting on the floor, saw my ninja head gear and said " Hey hope you are feeling better now friend." I thanked him and wished him well too.

Thought that was kind of a nice end to my evening. Hope his got better too.

Cheers All
